This. Basketball gets a technical boost because of SEC splitting the tourney money. But that's because the country cares more about NCAA basketball than baseball (and that's another discussion in and of itself).
Baseball makes a great deal more money than basketball if you only look at the money that the teams themselves actually make: ticket and concession sales, merchandise, etc. To be fair basketball plays something like 30ish regular season games while baseball plays in the 50s, but the PMAC does hold more and baseball leads by a significant enough margin in ticket sales dollars to say it makes more money fair and square.

The details are derailing this thread. You're overall point is correct though. Whether baseball makes slightly more right now or not is irrelevant to your idea in the OP. Imagine the revenue you could bring in by investing in the basketball program. There's money to be made out there.

And this was last year with the Ben Simmons hype. Baseball will probably have a bigger profit than basketball in 2017.

#LSU baseball made $2.59M on tickets sold in 2015-16.
That's the most of any sport at the school. Except, of course, for football's $38M.
That's doesn't mean anything when basketball makes that and more on TV contracts.
Tickets are not the only method of making money on sports.

I work in Philadelphia...had a conversation at work and people didn't even know that college baseball was a thing. Disclaimer: I work for a pro sports organization

Consistently, LSU baseball outdraws LSU basketball. It is what it is. Now, the point that basketball has far greater potential to make money is extremely accurate. But outside of LSU riding the coattails of the contract money made by other schools, the program does not make more money currently at LSU.

Even with a crappy team it still makes more money than every sport on campus sans football, even our beloved and precious baseball.
Just think if we actually invested in the program, how much money could be made

No, you are wrong. The only programs at LSU that don't lose money are baseball and football.

The number don't lie. Reguardless of where the money comes from( tv, ticket sales, concessions, advertising) basketball generates more revenue, and with a good team has the potential to generate more

Football (thanks to concussions and never ending games) is a dying sport across America.
Fixed it for you!

Baseball is whitey's last bastion. Who cares about it, the game is boring and the only reason people watch it is because it is LSU performing well. Can anybody tell who won the College Baseball world series last year without looking it up NO
Posted on 2/20/17 at 5:20 pm to MorbidTheClown
People are obsessed with tickets sales. TV is where the money is.

Part of the money is the split each sport receives from the SEC. That is a great bit larger contract for basketball.

This. Socialism is great when you're dragging your arse like the basketball team. And the hell of it is that SEC baseball up and down compares very well with the rest of the country, it's just that LSU is the undisputed leader.

Besides being a racist you're stupid too. Coastal Carolina won the world series last year dingbat.

So if you take out baseball tv revenue share, Where are they? Remember the profit is only $1.5 million with the t.v money.
