LSU is not going to allow the athletic program to spend significant money until the academic side either (a) gets it's funding back from the taxpayers or (b) accepts that it is a bloated bureaucracy in need of some reasonable costs-cutting
People keep using this excuse but I don't think it's valid when you made a significant hires in football with Dave Aranda and others. Plus they gave quite a few of the coaches raises. They could've done it if they wanted to do it. Point is, LSU doesn't care about achieving greatness with the basketball program. The amount of money they invest in the program proves it! Tiger Stadium is a first class venue, they recently built a first class baseball stadium with the new Box, but the Basketball arena still looks like it's stuck in the damn 1970-80's.

They're all signed, although I wonder about Kieran Hayward, since Patrick is gone that was the only reason he was coming here.
Keiran has already said he's still planning on going to LSU.

Check on the recruiting board, Johnny just lost his only 2017 commit, 3-star instate guard Cedric Russell
There really was NO logical argument for keeping JJ.
Even if you think none of this season was his fault, you cannot get around the reality that every recruit in America watched a team with a top 10 recruiting class and the supposed #1 recruit in America fail to even make the dance.
In the one and done era, that is just an IMPOSSIBLE to overlook happening.
JJ's recruiting will absolutely crater.

The state is loaded with 2017 and 2018 talent too, we made a dumb move not getting rid of JJ now.

Never underestimate JJ--he's best when his back is against the wall!!!

Football is looked at differently as THE big-money maker. I think the willingness to change and pay money for big-time assistants was a way to calm the fury of the big money folks who absolutely wanted Miles gone after last season. At least the assistants might keep them slightly at bay. I don't think basketball has those types of influential boosters. Thus, there isn't as many important angry folks to placate.
Every sport at LSU is second to football. Spending money there is probably looked at as a better ROI. They knew they weren't really going to piss off a ton of influential people by keeping Jones, so they did so in order to "save money."

I agree. Alleva really set the program back at least three years when he decided to keep JJ. I appreciate what JJ has done to make the program somewhat relevant again, but he isn't the guy that can take us to a level of national prominence. To save the program and build upon what JJ has established, it was time to cut bait and hire someone new. Unfortunately, Alleva failed to recognize this and now the entire program will be back to the days of Trent Johnson.
People also need to understand that Alleva's hands are tied with firing coaches at the moment, and the fact of the matter is that he isn't even the one who hired Jones in the first place

Our recruiting for next season is currently at 0. Johnny should have been fired. I would not want my son to go anywhere near this man. He makes Les look like tGOAT.

With the whole mess, I really want to believe it. Please provide the proof (i.e. link to an article).

yea, just like this year when he had the #1 overall pick and needed to win the SEC tourney to make the dance.

There is no reason to keep him.
His coaching isn't good and now his recruiting is suffering. Why not bring in another coach. Even an up and comer type that is affordable. See if coaching can actually overcome some deficiencies.

In 2016 Louisiana had 4 4-star recruits; Johnny didn't sign any of them.
A kid from Texas, another that's been committed to Baylor since the 8th grade and hasn't lived in Louisiana since he was a sophomore, and Jarreau with more shady bullshite around him then anyone in the state. We straight up stopped recruiting him because of it. Why you think he's going to fricking UMass? Mays>>>>Peters. You don't follow basketball recruiting, so don't act like you do.
As for Ced, we have a solid season and Jones secures his job, he'll recommit. Simple as that.

Patrick leaving to TCU is a red flag for me. i always expected him to leave after this season but for TCU? I like Dixon as a coach but that is going to be a tough, tough job (though trent actually fricked around and is leaving a couple decent players behind) i feel like had we done well this season he'd be headed either back to the nba or a step up to a more prominent cbb school. even after this season, if he waited a little while for a few other shoes to drop he might have been able to land a better gig. screams "peace out, johnny" to me.

If Alleva can't exercise his authority and responsibility as LSU AD, he should resign and his boss will be held accountable.

Hard to recruit when you fricking suck.

I think it was a mutual thing. Those guys have known each other for 30 years now, so I doubt there's any issue there. DP is getting paid more at TCU, it's more stable, and Johnny can fully distance the program from this last disaster of a season. No holdovers from that camp in a sense. I expect us to go out and get Randy Livingston to replace him. He's got the Australian connections and he's one of the best high school players in our state's history. He'd slide into Dave's role pretty seamlessly.

Randy would be a good hire for Johnny on multiple levels. Would definitely first and foremost strike up some positive PR

It's definitely make or break time for Jones. Will we get the grit and grind, press at all times, frenetic paced teams that way overachieved his first two years, or will it be the same lazy, disjointed, uncoordinated mess we saw this past season? Personally, I think it will be closer to those first two years. Entitlement was a major problem with our team last season, and I think that won't be a problem next year. They won't expect anything to be handed to them. At least that's what I hope happens. A lot will depend on on Tone taking the reigns, Brandon taking a Quarterman-esque sophomore leap, Skylar picking up the offense, and Duop being the rebounder and rim protector we need. Those things happen and I think we'll have the talent in place to make a run at the NCAAT. Anything less and Jones has to go.
