Check on the recruiting board, Johnny just lost his only 2017 commit, 3-star instate guard Cedric Russell.

LINK

David Patrick was listed as his primary recruiter

can't imagine why he wouldn't want to stay committed to a guy going into a lame duck season

The state is loaded with 2017 and 2018 talent too, we made a dumb move not getting rid of JJ now. Will be tough for whoever comes in to get any of the 2017 kids who will be signed elsewhere probably and the 2018 kids just starting to establish a relationship with.

I'm really shocked that our AD did something dumb.

It's crazy to know that this is his last season because this team will have no talent. But yet you keep him? Bring in a guy and give him a 4-5 year contract now.

Pretty sad how apathetic/hopeless I've become towards LSU hoops. I just see no reason for hope whatsoever.

I agree. Alleva really set the program back at least three years when he decided to keep JJ. I appreciate what JJ has done to make the program somewhat relevant again, but he isn't the guy that can take us to a level of national prominence. To save the program and build upon what JJ has established, it was time to cut bait and hire someone new. Unfortunately, Alleva failed to recognize this and now the entire program will be back to the days of Trent Johnson.

In 2016 Louisiana had 4 4-star recruits; Johnny didn't sign any of them.

For 2017 there's 3 (All Top 100 overall players in nation):
SF Galen Alexander
CG Brandon Rachel
SG Josh Anderson

For 2018 there's (both top 100):
5-star PG Javonte Smart
SF Josh LeBlanc

Talk about pissing away talent up and down the road. We could be building another Final Four esque team off home grown talent.

I bet they would lose a couple 2016 recruits if they hadn't signed early.

I'm sure some are likely researching for ways to back out

They're all signed, although I wonder about Kieran Hayward, since Patrick is gone that was the only reason he was coming here.

Isn't Smart going to some academy in the future?

These student athletes are supposed to be committing to an institution of higher learning and overall athletic program, not one coach or recruiter.

Ok I give up. All I got.

A new hire could have come in and possibly convinced TQ to stay. If so, you could have had Quarterman, Blakeney, Sampson, Victor on the roster. Obviously guard-heavy, but that's still a pretty good foundation. Plenty of good coaches have won with less. That new coach also could have gotten a jump on recruiting. Instead, they chose to put off then inevitable for one more year and in the process likely letting the program deteriorate back to a 2012 level. Once it does, the new coach will have to start from scratch and the Jones era will be what most thought it would be when he was hired, a 5 year waste of time.

A new coach could have possibly built upon what success/momentum Jones has brought to the program. After one more season that will all be gone. Alleva gets the blame, but this goes over his head. LSU is not going to allow the athletic program to spend significant money until the academic side either (a) gets it's funding back from the taxpayers or (b) accepts that it is a bloated bureaucracy in need of some reasonable costs-cutting.

Hayward and his mother were big on him coming to the states. If so he will still have to come here for a year.

He might even want to get an education. Here are some quotes from him and his mother.

“My eyes were popping out of my head,” Juliana Hayward said of the academic center. “I thought, ‘I’ve got to get myself a degree and come to school as well.’”

“Everything we saw was breathtaking,” added Kieran. “Coming from Australia, we don’t’ have any universities close to that standard.”
