I think he struggles with pitch recognition more than anything mechanical.

A few things stats wise that stands out so far through 7 scrimmages that Scuba reported on...
Braswell is continuing to produce good at bats and he is getting on base a lot with a .524 OBP in 21 PA. Also is 6/16 with a .375 AVG and only 2K.
Travinski has the most hits so far this spring with 8. To be fair, he also has more PA than everyone except Tommy White. I think he is going to do well protecting Tommy and we just need to figure out who can get on base before them.
Pearson has started the spring hot hitting .389 AVG (7/18) and OBP .500. Only 4K in 22 PA also. He has quite a few XBH and is tied with Kling and Travinski to lead the team with 5 RBI each.
Jones, Milazzo, and Ruddell have high K rates to start the spring. Jones 11K in 22 PA (50%), Milazzo 8K in 19 PA (42%), and Ruddell with 13K in 21 PA (62%).

I think it is a little of that and a lot of mental/confidence inside his head. Which makes him indecisive on swings. He might be doubting himself and it puts him at a disadvantage from the start.

He rarely hits the ball to the right side of 2B.
It’s likely been his hitting approach his whole life. Hard to change. Likes to get started early & stay on ahead of the ball.
He walks a lot so I don’t think it is all pitch recognition. Maybe more issues w/ the shape of the pitch vs the angle.

Approach, pitch recognition, mindset. 99% between the ears.

I love Travinski but man he did not look great behind the plate last night. i was there and he looked as if he had trouble getting to a lot of pitches. I would imagine hes the DH and won't see a ton of time catching but still it looked rough.

He's never looked good behind the plate. If you were expecting some great improvement back there, you might be disappointed.

Bucknam has been striking more guys out in the fall and spring than he did previously (including summer prior to campus, fall, spring, season, and cape cod). He had flashed the ability to eat innings with minimal damage in the summers, but never really put guys away. If he's found the strikeout ability, he could contribute quite a bit. Multi-inning relief or even occasional starter if he can increase his K rate.

YouTube video posted of yesterday’s scrimmage. 8 mins of video for those who missed it or haven’t seen the team in action yet.

Damn that is super high K rates for a few of them.hopefully it’s because they are seeing elite pitching.
