Good thing what the fans think don't make a bit of difference in the decisions then right. He will have plenty opportunity to work out of any slumps he may have. No better option at SS. He will be just fine.

Guidry isn't there yet at SS but he might not be as far off as his fall stats indicate. We know he has the talent and I just feel it is going to show sooner than later. Thompson plays with ice in his veins. Guidry I believe is different and confidence is going to be a big factor with his success. I can see his play really elevate with more success and confidence. With Dugas, Merrifield and Nippolt you have solid players with a limit to their ceilings. I'm not going to put a limit on Guidry and he could be a player that emerges as the season progresses and become a factor.

Always went into the season with the expectation that he wasn't going to be ready for SS until year 2. Unfortunate neither transfer SS made it to campus but Thompson can be a difference maker at SS. Still holding at hope that it clicks for him this year with him healthy.

Thompson is a lot better than the rant wants to give him credit. The way the fanbase is about him has a ton of Kramer vibes. People have made up their minds about him and even if he plays well they will hate him for proving them wrong. The moment he has some sort of struggles they will be on here to destroy him.

Well good thing the fanbase is not entirely made up of the loud few ranters who don't like him. Majority of fans know he has the talent and the tools to be an elite SEC SS but he did go through struggles due to his injury last year. Which with this year being fully healthy were all hoping it clicks and he has a good year defensively. LSU will be better for it.

Why are you worried about his defense he was coming back from a knee injury and could not stay down on the ball. He was fine the last 3rd of the year. If he hits he is a major league player. Honestly I am more worried about his hitting.

It wasn't his knee. He fielded the ball okay, but he was erratic on his throws.

I don’t mind Thompson but he is basically the SS by default. He’s that far ahead because there really isn’t another SS on the roster

Exactly. His play at SS over the last two seasons makes him the worst SS LSU has had since Bertman got here.

He needs to improve.’I an m interested To see how he does not coming off a knee injury.

Think what his numbers would look like if we had an average first basemen.

I assume you mean defensively (even then I'd argue you're probably wrong if you're going all the way back to the 80s)...but if you mean overall there's no amount of defense Hal Hughes had to make him a better player than Jordan Thompson because he was entirely hopeless at the plate.

He is not very good defensively. Everyone saw that. Forget the errors. His technique is bad and indicative of a player with a strong arm growing up who became accustomed to staying back on the ball. That works against little Johnny travel ball but not power 5 baseball. Same technique will yield the same defensive results. We shall see if he made improvement.

I believe it was two weeks ago that Ryan Theriot on his weekly appearance on Moscona's show said he thinks Thompson will be much better defensively this year and gave some actual fundamental/technical reasons for why.

Thanks, Scuba. Nice night for Morgan at the plate. He has some of the quickest hands. Seems like he was a good opposite field hitter. As others mentioned, it will be awesome to see Morgan back at 100% health to start the season.

He is an incredible defensive first baseman, and I think that could be a difference maker for this team in close games this season.

These days leading up to opening day are dragging and it can't get here soon enough.

You forgot about Skenes. He has a ton of pop on his bat.

No, he didn't forget. Skenes will only DH about 25 or 30 times over the course of the season.

ETA: Given that Skenes primary contribution to the team will be on the mound and he's not going to be here more than 1 year, the DH spot will be used rotationally to get ABs for guys that need them but won't break into a positio n spot yet. If we have to rely on Skenes batting, there are a lot of guys struggling.
