Mookie Betts. Lindor, Mason Winn, none of these guys are monsters. David eckstein and Ryan theriot played SS in the mlb and Milam is on a different level than them in terms of physical skills

Eddie Gedell was also a ss at one time but the bastards never let him play the field.

these guys are all 5'9-5'10

Just seems to be the floor seems to be 5'9 these days for an MLB SS. Milam is probably right at 5'7. He is VERY short

Mookie is right at 5'9 and came up as an outfielder. Winn is also 5'9 and Lindor is 5'10. That's just 3 and all still 3-4" taller than Milam.

Most recently comparable was Jimmy Rollins at 5'7.

Not saying he can't stick there at the next level, but the odds are extremely stacked against him

Naturally the odds are against all players making the mlb; he is a pro caliber defensive shortstop though. Hitting with wood bat will determine his fate.

He is, but height doesn’t affect his ability to play SS

I think he’ll have a shot at short as well.

People also said tre morgan wouldnt be a 1st basemen in pro ball, the majority of this board actually. And he’s played plenty of 1st base in the minors

People get too locked in to tradional body types, sizes, and tradional production positions

Let’s not forget Ozzie Smith at 5’10”. I always felt he was the best in the business. Milam fits well.

yep, does not really matter in baseball. I am actually kind of shocked people think he can't stay at SS after watching him last season.

Defense is about physical tools, not body type. Most 5'7" guys have restricted tools due to their size, but not Milam. He has been bred to play SS.

I fully believe that he can stay at short, but to be fair, 5-10 is a good bit bigger than Milam (I don’t believe Milam is 5-8).

While Milam’s height is probably a bit embellished, so are listed MLB heights.

Blue jays had elite defense last year and their team up the middle was:

C Alejandro Kirk 5’8” 245
SS Andres Giménez 5’11” 163
CF Dalton Varsho 5’8” 207

In World Series games last year, they also started

Util Davis Schneider 5’9” 190
Util Isaiah Kiner-falaefa 5’10” 190
Of Myles straw 5’9” 178

I do agree that Caraway is the most intriguing of the transfers. The feel (not the comparison of skills) around him reminds me of Dickinson kinda (High-end draft hype but a good bit of unknowns). Boom or bust seems like a good way to describe him.

We've seen it time and time again with Jay at the helm of taking players that have potential, reworking their game, they get off to a rocky start, and then settle in to be great by the end of the year (Ex. Braswell 1st year, Eyanson, Luis H, etc.). That's exactly what I expect from Caraway. Just don't be too quick to throw the towel in on him. By the end of SEC play he very well could be our best hitter.

I don't see a true 20 HR guy in that group, maybe Arrambide maybe, but I see 8 potential 10-15 HR guys in that group. That's pretty exciting

Carraway looks bigger than 201lbs. His defense was a little shaky in the fall but looked good enough to hold the position. He only has one HR in the scrimmages but the power is there. I just have a feeling that his bat will progress as the season goes on, eventually becoming a factor.

I just read an interview with Jay on Dandydon.com.

Jay said Ruckert was their best defender at 2B and you could see him as a defensive sub later in games

Mentioned Simpson is coming on lately. That is a good sign that he is starting to adjust to this level of pitching.

If this team has a chance to compete for a title again this year it comes down to 1 player. Casan Evans.
