Baseball is an incredibly mental game and Mainieri coaches tight and over manages when he gets to June (see, e.g., Poche pitching today). While a very good "coach" in the true sense of the word, he has proved himself to be mentally feeble on multiple occasions and I posit it influences the way the team plays in June.
