In the last 20 years going back to 2000, these are the schools with multiple appearances in the CWS Finals. Pretty select group.

SC 4 (2 titles)
Texas 4 (2 titles)
LSU 3 (2 titles)
Stanford 3 (0 titles)
Florida 3 (1 title)
Oregon St 3 (3 titles)
Vandy 3 (2 titles)
Virginia 2 (1 title)
UNC 2 (0 titles)
Arizona 2 (1 title)
UCLA 2 (1 title)

Stanford, Texas, and Oregon State would all have better numbers except for the Fighting Tigers.

Pretty sure UCLA has made it twice. They lost to SCAR once and beat State the other time.

You are correct. They lost to South Carolina in 2010. Beat MS State in 2013.

Look... Paul's time is done at LSU, I think we all know that.

But this list just shows you how ridiculously hard it is to make the CWS final once, let alone multiple times and it also shows you how stupid some people were that wanted Paul fired between 2011-2016 because he wasn't putting up Skip numbers.

Fun fact: Since 1985, LSU has made it to Omaha more often than they have not. We are currently in danger of our longest CWS drought since we began making the trip, and yet we still have made it to Omaha more years than not even if you included 2020 (with no postseason) and this year.

Programs on a downward trend. In an average season during my lifetime, LSU is playing in Omaha at the end of the year. Now here we are with a losing record over the last 3 years of conference play, not including last year where we likely would’ve had a similar year to this one.

Or is the rest of college baseball on an upward trend?

I think it’s both.

College baseball as a whole is getting better; while LSU has lost its edge.

I get the sentiment broski, but to keep our program at the top, the fan pressure NEEDS to be there. And with that comes the extreme expectations from part of that group.

Why are you including Skip and Smoke years?

Do just CPM now and see where we fall...

Also why not just do trips to Omaha pre CPM and then during CPM

Definitely shows the parity in the sport and how hard it is to get there year in and year out much less win it
Florida won in 2017 because they had better pitching and you can maybe argue LSU should have done better the year Nola and Bregman were on the roster and they are still right there with the heavyweights

It doesn't outweigh the concerns since 2017 taking out a 2020 covid year
they were not getting past Oregon St in 2018
2019 they were better than Fla St and should have won that super regional which would have been another omaha trip
2020 would have been similar sec troubles as they've faced this season but maybe the soph would have been better out of the gate this year and who knows if Hill would have held up all of last season, that injury was clearly gonna happen it was just a matter of when

Now do football and it will become obvious that baseball unlike football is more competitive. You even have non power 5 schools winning titles in baseball.

Our program is getting stale, it’s leaking oil, but no one is dominating the college landscape like the great Skip Bertman did. Nobody is even close.

Which begs the question. Was it Skip or was it LSU?

It was a combination of Skip and the era. It’s obvious not many could do what he did then, and equally as obvious he wouldn’t replicate the same run today.

But we’d be better off and probably with a couple more titles wouldn’t you think.

So we got to the CWS 7 times in the 90s… 5 times in the 00s… 3 times in the 10s

I see a trend.
