That hyped nerd is in charge of building a roster. There isn't anything hyped about his position; it's essential, and you have seen previous portal years compared to this one.

So are we officially out of the "bad roster" excuse territory?

Why are we paying Kelly 10 million a year? You would figure building a competitive roster would be job #1 for a head coach.

Because he is the CEO of a billion dollar enterprise. A quick entry into AI retuned the following:

As of 2025, the LSU football program is valued at approximately $1.060 billion 1. This valuation places LSU among the top college football programs in terms of enterprise value, reflecting factors such as revenue, cash flow, and sustainability.

That is a big job and has big stakes, big expectations, and a big salary.

Because someone has to begin looking into freshman and sophomores in high school, building up a folder on their families, get these kids to summer camps and then give all that information to BK and staff. You can’t just show up with an offer anymore.

The dude came in from Ole Piss and told TAFF and the rest of the administration that what they were doing isn't working and wont ever.
My buddies son was offered around 400k to play at Lsu. When Bo Davis was on campus at Oak Grove Hs in hattiesburg, Ms. The father of the recruit said what happened to the 650k Bo replied that was when I was at Texas, I'm not at Tx anymore.
We weren't in the same ballpark as these other schools.
He said Ohio St offered the most $$.
Hes at Ole Miss with his brother and his Little Brother who ive coached a few years moved to Oxford to be close to his kids. The little brother will be the best player out of the 3. The dad played for the Jags and Texans so he has some big shoes to fill.
What im getting at is that AT had that collective humming in Oxford and whatever his part was with the Billionaire donor it worked. Thats why he deserves the raises and then some.

Kelly must have been super impressed with him to double his salary in such a short amount of time.

Maybe. More likely Austin showed Kelly an email with an offer from other SEC schools to prove his market value.

It befuddles me how we still have people in 2025 that can't comprehend it takes a team to build things.

Be it in the corporate world or on a football field - no one person can do it all.

No one suggested one person can do it all. But priority #1 for a Head Coach should be putting the best roster together you possibly can. Identifying strengths and weaknesses and addressing roster needs. Especially for "CEO" coach not calling plays.

If that can't be a primary focus for someone making $10 Ms a year then it's a problem. I'm not suggesting Austin Thomas isn't valuable, I am asking why Kelly is getting $10M a year.

You are referencing the corporate world. In the corporate world if someone is making $10 million a year and someone is doing the primary responsibilities for $1 million a year, the $10 million a year guy is getting laid off.

We have the highest paid DC, the highest paid GM, one of the highest paid head coaches that doesn't call plays. I'm asking what are we getting out of the HC for $10Ms? It hasn't been a championship and he needs to start being held accountable for that.

You can just say it was Andrew Maddox, I mean you gave the high school and said he was recruited last year by Bo while Bo was here and he wound up at OM

But I think it's crystal clear why AT was brought back in here. He apparently had a lot to do with the NIL effort at Ole Miss and we were way behind there. In just under a year he got our NIL humming too. Talk about a dude who has proven his value to the point of almost making 7 figures a year now in a non coaching position. I hope NIL stays in its current state for Austin because if it ever gets heavily regulated his value probably goes way down

Also GM's across the country are getting huge raises.

Texas pays Brandon Harris $600k/yr.

The Nebraska GM is making over $800k who came from the Patriots

I have explained my friendship with the family and my connections to alot of the kids around Hattiesburg. Such as Devin Roberson, Tristan Keys, etc.
I just didn't feel like typing all that out.

I mean, we're jealous. We nerds build the roster on here all the time and the most we might get is an upvote.

Let's all just agree that you don't understand how major college football programs work in the modern day and move on.
