LSU QB Sam Leavitt Shows Off His Deep Ball at Fall Camp
New LSU RB Coach Kevin Smith Coaches Up His Group During Day 1 Of Fall Camp
A First Look At LSU’s Young But Talented Defensive Tackle Room
Coach O Is Back Where He Belongs At LSU's Practice

- shorter practice today than normal to ramp things up and avoid injury. Normal practices should start next week. Trying to avoid soft tissue injuries

- Sam Leavitt looked great today and has developed great rapport with receivers. Has done a lot of mental work and is on pace for fall camp. Has been moving around well and he is "all the way back" from the surgery

- DJ Pickett changed his jersey number to #5 this year because he was promised it in high school recruiting by prior regime. [Assume that is true, but LSU didn't even have a number 5 last year did they? Just crazy stubbornness in the last regime.]

- Aiming to be more physical up front

- Lamar Brown has unique height, weight, speed makeup and will be a force going forward. He was sitting on the couch when LK first showed up to Football ops in November

- Open competition at kicker

- Not able to answer how much Leavitt will run in games. Will be matchup specific

- How to build team chemistry with portal? We've done it for so long and have experience with it. Reported "very few attitude problems" and no issues with kids being late, etc.

- LK wants to let coordinators do their job without getting involved too much, especially on defense. Charlie Weiss' growth over past few years he lets him run it and doesn't need to be involved as much.

- Our 'ultra tempo' offensive system means you have to overly simplify things. Inadvertently this is conducive to portal usage because players can come in quick and adjust to the system more easily.

- Very clean off season with respect to off the field issues. Credits that to how he runs the program and high character players see that and choose LSU.

- Everyone they planned on practicing practiced. No reported injuries (though he kind of dodged that question)

Did he mean that Kiffin promised him number 5 when he was recruiting him to come back or it was promised to him when he was in high school and BK didnt give it to him for whatever reason?

I'm sure he meant Kelly wouldn't give it to him because of jayden Daniels.

Which brown was sitting on the couch?

Just read Hunt's practice report. Dom Mckinley ran with the 3rd string...dont want to read to much into the first practice but man...its tough not to start feeling like this kid may be a bust compared to the hype he had out of HS

No. They didn’t want anyone wearing Jayden Daniels’ number.
I wonder what would happen if the top recruit in the country insisted on wearing # 20.

There was no #5 and no #9.

I get the sentiment, but the numbers aren’t formally retired. Also, retiring numbers in CFB is dumb given the roster sizes.

Saw a clip of the "first team defense" that had the following interesting starters:

DTs were Blocton and Deuce Geralds instead of McKinley/Anderson/Green
Deep Safety was Jhase Thomas and not Cooley

at DL? We absolutely have talent at the position , the argument can be made about depth.

Of our 8 defensive tackles, we have:

Achilles Woods (starter at South Alabama)
Malik Blocton (starter at Auburn)
Setphiylan Green (starter at Clemson)
Deuce Geralds (5 star)
Richard Anderson (5 star)
Brandon Brown (redshirt freshman)
Dominick McKinley (5 star)
Shone Washington (5th year senior rotational player)

We have 7 guys who have either played major snaps in college football or are 5 star recruits. It's a position that, at most (outside of specific short yardage situations) plays 2 guys at a time. We absolutely have talent and depth at the position.

Kids are making millions to play football and live a lavish lifestyle, what could you possibly have an attitude problem about. I would be having a smile on my face 24/7.

Attitude problem could also mean laziness and getting that much money in college could easily cause that.

shite, money causes a wide array attitude problems in the pros all the damn time.

Glad to hear it's minimal on this team.

Anyone else catch Lane saying he was on the phone about a recruiting/compliance thing that could potentially help us this year??
