Per Ross Dellenger (bitchass mf)
quote:

Auburn basketball player Mantas Rubštavicius, a 6-6 guard from Lithuania ruled ineligible by the NCAA, has filed suit in Lee County Circuit Court. Rubštavicius’ circumstance is unique from others in that he never competed in college, nor did he sign an NBA or G-League contract. Auburn is supporting Rubštavicius' legal challenge and has informed the SEC and NCAA of the situation.

Twitter (X)

On one hand, he never signed a pro contract, on the other the university of Auburn is taking a direct stance in an eligibility case. Even more so than LSU ever did.

Guess the barn will be threatened to be kicked out like LSU, right? That's how this works.

I’d also like to comment on the fact that Ross is pretty clearly trying to differentiate this case from, say RJ Luis or the football pros, by saying “he never signed a pro contact.” Almost as if the SEC mouthpiece is trying to shore up the hypocrisy to make sure the sights stay targeted on LSU.

Except, this is not how it works at all.

The other teams can say, "Well, we had to do it, because LSU was doing it. If we weren't forced to do it to compete, then it wouldn't be happening."

This way they can stand on a moral high ground, but also do the same thing as everybody else already was.

Good for them. The SEC commissioner needs to know he works for the schools. The schools don’t work for him. He isn’t supposed to protect the sport. He’s supposed to help us grow.

If it was Alabama, this would never be an issue

It's pretty funny that the SEC is filing a lawsuit against LSU for a lack of institutional control for having broken zero rules, while the SEC itself had I believe 50+ now members suing them, but I guess Sankey has full institutional control? Ok, sure thing...

Or, that's where the line is drawn...

He's not "unique" at all. Nither Dessert nor Niang competed in college or signed an NBA or G-League contract.

As for the G-League contract, who gives a shite? There have been multiple players over the last 4-5 years who went from HS to G-League to college...without issue

Nothing makes moving to another conference easier than having it be a pair of teams. I’d be cool with Auburn joining us to the big 10. The SEC would fall apart real quick

Do y'all realize how much Ross tips his hand here?

He quoted the SEC's brief, where a segment of that brief stated (paraphrasing) "LSU continued to recruit and sign professional players from overseas leagues" and even quoted Will Wade in the context of recruiting such players.

But here he frames it as "nor did he sign an NBA or G-League contract."

There is 0 difference between the two situations and the LSU euro-league players, but he frames one as nefarious and one as excusable. It is chicken shite.

How much does proximity to Birmingham factor into what happens next here?

Also, where’s Pat Forde?
