What about his extension of O? He wasnt going anywhere, no one was coming get him. A season and a half later, he fires O, and we're on the hook for over $4m/year for him. And when O was asked about it he made jokes like "yep, im happy with it, which door do you want me to leave out of? Lets go"

Blame Sexton for the extension. That was Coach O’s agent who scored the extension. Woodward didn’t call his bluff.

I’m definitely not business savvy for sure and I am emotional. We got destroyed by aTm last night for the whole country to see on prime time, at home at a night game at LSU.

We should all be emotional. I just want LSU to have an exit strategy inked in the next contract of our next HC

At least be honest. Both walked into a shite situation.

You’re not wrong, it may be time to go with the NFL model.

If Austin Thomas is your GM, let him head up the search

Actually, it should be 2/3 because the worst decision of his tenure was firing Will Wade. So not only has he made 2 terrible coaching hires, he also fired one of the best basketball coaches in LSU history.

Do you really think Woody can ink a deal like Kelly’s on his own? Has anybody on here ever worked for a large company and understand a concept called “chart of authority?” Woody needs approvals from different Boards and the way this works is that those Boards hire independent firms to perform analysis and due diligence on proposals. Woody’s job is to bring proposals that meet Board criteria.

With the advent of NIL, how many of yesterday’s top coaches can succeed in today’s game?

Things have changed radically. No longer do players have to be patient and wait their turn. Now players get paid which creates tension in the ranks. Who gets more. The future star or the guy who had been working and paying his dues.

Loyalty to team and school seems to be losing out. Guys are mercenaries out for themselves. How do you get them to play as a team?

So the the Board of Supervisors need to make sure there is an exit strategy inked in the next contract.

CFB has evolved into professional football. In our desire for things to remain unchanged with our beloved old-days, we’ve been modifying our thinking and not changing it completely.

Guaranteed coach’s contracts were a thing of old cfb—a thing of the past. This is pro football and coaches, players, GMs, etc. warrant contracts like the NFL. They are performance based and they are NOT guaranteed. Perform or leave.

I mean those huge buyout clauses would be a dealbreaker for negotiators like Trump.

Most ADs are not experienced businessmen, they are bureaucrats.

I worked in the athletic department at LSU as a student, and then went on to work at two other universities in athletic administration after I graduated.

The amount of bloat and bureaucracy that exists in athletic departments is astounding. The people running them would be eaten alive in the normal corporate sector.
