If we don't make the playoff next year, Mike Slive will get to choose which bowl we go to, so I guess that's what fans will complain about next. I understand being mad at the Outback Bowl for not choosing SEC West teams in the past, but the bottom line is that LSU needs to sell their ticket allotment, or risk getting sent to an even crappier bowl next year. I heard that the Outback Bowl sent LSU 12,000 tickets and that so far only about half have been sold. If that is true, then that is really sad. We routinely bring more than 6,000 fans to SEC road games.

The SEC HQ already has enough influence over the bowls so I don't see it being much of a change.

Oh well. People may forgive but they don't soon forget when they get screwed.

Unfortunately the fans have NO voice in scheduling of opponents, officiating, compliance, parking, fairness, television contracts (length of games, day games) etc. so the only way you can vote is with your money.

I'm fortunate and usually take my entire family to the bowl. We spend a lot on lodging, food, entertainment, shopping, souvenirs, etc. but it's not happening this year and I don't give a rat's arse what the jackass Gump Commissioner thinks about it.

Message to the city of Tampa...try to find another sponsor and/or committee to run your bowl game. The jackasses will cost you a lot of money this year.

You know ticket sales are horrible when LSU starts running promotions to sell tickets.

Wow. Our fans really do suck. It's not like LSU was allotted a ton of tickets. We only got 12,000 to sell.

That is the first thing I thought of when I got that email today.

I would think that the Athletic Department is feeling a little bit nervous about the new expansion coming online next year and they cannot even sell out their bowl game allotment.

With poor home game attendance and poor bowl ticket sales, the apathy of a good portion of the fan base is now becoming evident.

It's not that our fans are shitty, they are smart.

They remember getting screwed and they take their money and burgeoning internet savvy to the secondary market. Everyone knows how cheap bowl tickets are when you don't buy them straight up. And with the series of tubes, it's easier than ever to do so.

Everyone keeps talking about the expansion as if the demand wasn't there to fund it from the start. When it was announced, maybe 1,500 upper deck seats would be added to the general seating of the stadium.

Thousands of club seats and doubling the number of suites in the stadium with ease shows the demand for premium seating. The upper deck was just part of the deal to offer more seats. Won't be full up there except for maybe Alabama every other year, or other top notch games maybe.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that the expansion is for premium seating, which there is a ton of demand for?

Exactly Boh. There are a lot of people out there who want season tickets, but do not want the sardine and cattle experience. They go to the games win or lose and see their $$$ as providing the opportunity for a young man or woman to excel.

Does anybody know how many bowl tickets we've sold so far? I heard that UGA has only sold around 7,000 of the 15,000 tickets they were sent for their bowl game. It seems like we're not the only school that is struggling to sell tickets.

That's probably because SEC road games are cheaper, more fun, and against more interesting opponents than Bowl games for the most part.

I haven't spoken to a soul who has any interest in attending this game, and I know plenty of people who enjoy traveling a LOT during the regular season.

There's tens of thousands of fans waiting for the privilege to scoop those up. Haven't you heard? Never mind all those empty seats, even for the rare decent home game we are offered, people are surely already in line waiting for those to be available.

That's Exactly what will happen and the demand will Never be the same, unless its

2012 bama game
2013 Florida or Auburn game (OR were theses Ease tickets)

The culture is changing at LSU.

A lot of students with money that would normally travel for bowl games will be leaving for Copper Mountain on January 6th. I'm guessing they are saving their money for liquor and weed instead.

this is a major part of the problem

I applaud the administration for deciding to do what it takes to boost bowl attendance by the people who are season ticket holders tho - this is the kind of incentive that gives people a reason to pay for season tickets in the future.

Functionally LSU has been trying to get two bowl games a year with the openers at ATL or Dallas lately. I understand the need for revenue because the SEC programs in particular have been in an arms race but the loss of a quality home OOC opponent that results from playing those teams at neutral sites has also stung the season ticket holders. LSU could play two quality OOC teams a year to have the opener and a better home slate - but even that only gets you a quality BCS team every other year because of the nature of a home and home arrangement.

Why would you refuse to go to the Outback bowl? The Outback bowl typically chose an SEC East team because of an agreement with the Cotton Bowl that they typically take an SEC West team. The chairman of the Outback said recently that they have wanted to take LSU in the past but they didnt get the chance until this year. Once they had the opportunity to do so, he said they gladly picked LSU. TFWIW

Last week it was reported on a radio show in BR that only 11 of 72 teams in bowls this year had sold out their ticket allotments. The culture of CFB has changed in most places.

My wife and I will go to whatever bowl LSU plays in every year including the Outback this year. But, as of 2012, I no longer preorder bowl tickets through LSU EXCEPT for high demand bowls like Sugar or Cotton or NCG. I buy my tickets off of StubHub or such places. I did end up ordering two Outback tickets through LSU for someone else and got two end zone seats at face. I bought two lower bowl 30 yard line seats for less than face for myself in the secondary market.
