Good player, but this is the way college sports has evolved into a free agency transfer portal. Will never be the same.

Not surprising, but sad nonetheless. He is a great young player looking for a starting position. Just hope he goes outside of the SEC, don't want to have to face him. Best of luck Ashton

He’s good enough to start many places but we are stacked right now in OF.

JJ will play the best players at the time.

Hate to see this but after the way he was treated this year I don’t blame him. He’s a good player.

I have no inside info here so just a guess, but Kansas would seem like a great fit. Up-and-coming program coached by a guy with LSU ties and less than an hour away from where he grew up in Overland Park

I watch a lot of interviews between Jay's post-game press conferences, mic'd ups player interviews, and anything else i can get my hands on. Everyone speaks highly of him, and he entered the portal at the very end instead of jumping in it immediately after the championship game.

Stanfield has no connection to this. Frye, Brown, and DC will be starting OF.

Why are you so sure frey is back?

The way he was treated? We had Curiel, Stanfield, Brown, Pearson, and Larson competing for 3 OF spots. Larson was the low man on the totem pole. That's just the breaks when you're on a roster at a place like LSU

Exactly how was he treated?

Without demonstrating he can play a position, his draft stock just isn't going to be that high.

lol. He didn't get to play much means he was treated bad. Suck it up. That's life.

Hopefully he lands somewhere outside the SEC and crushes it.

Good luck to him. I like this kid.

Jay is probably also making sausage with high school recruits and Larson knew he may end up without a chair when the music stopped.

I disagree. He's demonstrated enough athletic ability to project at a corner OF spot.

He could even get some run in CF in low A. Teams try goofy shite like that all the time.

I heard a mom say this about her son in high school right after the school had won the first state title in school history. Kid played travel ball all his life but the coach who won the title didn't know what he was doing.

He has the measurables and athleticism to play a corner OF spot. He's played corner OF in college, albeit not a ton. His tools will get him drafted in the top 10 rounds. He's listed as a top150 prospect right now, which is a top 5 round pick. His upside is far more important to scouts than him "proving" something in college. Frey has a ton of upside. He was probably the best athlete on our roster

To go from top150 to top 75 you have to play.

There are also kids that slide down because they have not had the playing time to show their physical ability translated to production.
