Congrats to notre dame. They did what they had to do. Got hot at the right time. But they are not a very good football team and will protect throttled in the next game when they face a team with actual speed.

This is their chance to win it all. They are a 4 loss team next year with the departures and schedule

The state of college football is WAY different than it was just 4 years ago.

NIL has evened out the playing field. Much more parity in football now.

I think the good but not great "8-4" moniker is here to stay.

ND looks pretty good to me. I didn't think they would get past UGA, but they looked good against PSU also. I think they might go all the way.

It sucks to me that ND looks like they finally turned the corner with Kelly gone and now LSU looks like ND the past decade. Yes, Brian Kelly built ND football and built it back into what it is today. But how many TRULY big, end of season games did he win? In my four years at ND (2018-2022), it felt like ND was always in the hunt but never truly built to contend. Meanwhile LSU was out there winning the natty with Coach O. Now I’m watching ND finally make it back to the biggest stage in football and LSU lives in the same “good but not great” land that I’m so used to seeing ND live in. It makes me wonder…

Is it Kelly? Does he know how go lay the foundation of a program but struggle to build a true behemoth? How has Marcus Freeman (who’s introductory press conference I attended with the band and remember thinking “hope our backup hiring option turns out to be good”) had so much success and so many big wins in year 3 than BK has had in like, the last decade? The ND half of me is thankful LSU took away our Brian Kelly handicap, and the LSU half of me is frustrated beyond belief that we’re stuck looking like last decade ND

so BK made ship in year 3, had undefeated reg season, had 2 other playoff births when it was much harder to get in

he took over a program that had only 2 double digit win seasons since 94....so 16 seasons. he had 7 in 11 seasons

he left Marcus Freeman a program that finished the regular season ranks number 5.

now Marcus is a good coach, but they did not lose to teams like NIU when BK was there. They also played harder schedules when BK was there

Marcus doesnt make the playoff under the old system. Bk couldnt take transfers or use NDs huge booster network to pay players either

Marcus took over a perfect situation. Not even close to comparable and not to mention BK took over a program that was dogshit for 2 years here at LSU

anyone that thinks BK was the problem at ND is laughable and the winner of tonights game will blow the doors off ND.

They won three playoff games and will be one of only two teams left after tonight.

Then who the hell is? Ohio State and that's it?

In the championship he was destroyed by bama and every playoff game ND never looked competitive. It didn't feel like truly competitive teams in the big games. Now ND has won 3 playoff games in a row

Kelly was essentially a double digit underdog in all of his big postseason games. Freeman was favored in all 3 (with exception of PSU, which flipped right before kickoff).

How often do double digit underdogs win in the postseason?

So what was the athletic donor money spent on?

Money is needed for all kinds of things. There isn’t just a blank check out there, they have a budget they have to adhere to. Like for recruiting, flying out to a location, staying in hotels, taking the family out to dinner, flying the kid to South bend, rolling out red carpet. It all costs. Same with the facilities, eg “amenities”. LSU just built a brand new one with state of the art therapy stations like a cryo pod. When you bring recruits here (and for the ones already here) that’s a big selling point. And for coaches - if you get good coaches you want to keep them, and not lose them every other year. Sometimes it’s inevitable and they’re going to take a promotion but if it’s just a money thing you want to keep them. These are some of the items that BK asked Swarbrick for and he wouldn’t budge.

relax. ND had an easy draw. The ball has bounced their way. Allard literally bounced the ball their way late in the 4th. The panic on the rant is priceless

ND and Kelly lost to the juggernaut Alabama twice in the playoffs. This year's ND team hasn't faced a team remotely close to those Alabama teams.

They could still lose to Ohio State by 40.

Marcus freeman has beaten no one of consequence on his way to taking notre dame to a championship this season

I hate ND just as much as Ohio State, so in no way taking up for them, but you are the epitome of an idiot with this comment......

ND beat a ranked A&M
ND beat a ranked Louisville
ND obliterated Florida State
ND beat USC
ND beat a ranked Indana
ND beat a ranked UGA
ND beat a ranked Penn State

I'd say Marcus Freeman did a great job this year and figured out a way to keep ND from falling apart after getting embarrassed by Northern Illinois - which most coaches could not have done. I mean dude, get your head out your arse.

Comparing any teams to the era that existed prior to this NIL Portal watered down bullshite is just a dumb exercise. Did you watch last night, there wasnt a playmaker on the field. Talent is spread all over, all over the country. shite Colorado has players that could contribute at Bama or LSU of old. Five years ago this was unheard of........

Kelly needs to make a natty next year or at least a deep playoff run. He was not brought here to take us to Texas bowls every year.

hard to argue his record as a positive. Very average coach. Virtually any HS coach could take ND, with its history and money and national support and weak schedule, and have a nice winning record. But it will take a real coach to take ND or any team to a national title....even O with strong assistants can do it with the right personel.

He proved he didn't belong in any of those 3 postseason games, his soft teams losing 30-3, 42-14 and 31-14

All 3 of those teams he faced in the playoff would do the same thing to this years Notre dame team

And yet if LSU played NDs very weak schedule they still would have missed the playoffs
