Unless the umpire tells you that you’re out, you don’t move. That’s beyond unacceptable, especially for a Division 1 player.

There was an outfielder in the pros a few years ago catch what he thought was a fly ball for the third out then tossed it into the stands. Runner on first tagged and went all the way around the score
