You created a bit of harsh responses by trying to make the tool something it is not. You incorrectly act like the tool should calculate the national champion and it does not do that.
Claiming the tool is a joke because it did not rate the national champion first is the wrong hill to die on.
Thankfully, the natty is determined on the field in baseball!

quote:Goodness bro. There's no need to be this upset about RPI. It's just a computer generated ranking that doesn't take into account who won the championship
Are you claiming these results are acceptable? The fact that after the dust settles the computers
still have it EGREGIOUSLY wrong should make the selection committee DEVALUE the RPI or better yet shite CAN IT!
RPI isn't about who is the best team but more so about who has the best resume

I don’t think you understand the purpose of RPI.

If it were Bama it would be shirt printing time!

After the NC game vs Alabama in a 21-o loss, LSU BCS ranking was #1 because they had one more win than Alabama and split the series. Print the shirts

Well then what's your measurement?
His measurement is whoever wins the tournament should have been in apparently
It’s not surprising Arkansas is #1 in RPI even after the tournament. They played Tennessee in the Supers while LSU played WVU

You ALL are missing the point. I don’t care that the RPI selected the wrong #1 at the end of the year, I care that it selected more than half of the top seeds incorrectly!
Your first statement here is the ultimate irony. It’s not us missing the point, it’s you. RPI is a tool that ranks teams based on their play during the season. Nothing more. It is not a predictive measure, though you seem to not even want a predictive measure but rather a crystal ball that knows who will win. A team winning a game or a tournament l, especially in baseball is not “proof” that they are the best team beyond a shadow of a doubt. It’s why we play the games. But ifit was known from the start who would win, why bother even playing? RPI wasn’t “wrong”, it’s not meant to be a right or wrong instrument.

What a silly strawman.

Our RPI actually went down after the regionals because we played LR three times and lost one of them. That’s 2-1 against a school around 200 in the RPI

It jumped LSU all the way up to 2. I really wouldn’t call it egregiously wrong. Especially for what it is. It’s not a predictor of games. It’s an assessment of overall body of work. And it’s determined by numbers directly, not an evaluation based on them.
Arkansas can have had a better season and LSU get hot when it matters you know. The two aren’t contradictory statements.

As it should have. Probably went up a little playing and beating Arkansas twice

RPI is a tool used to predict the likelihood of success in a future event or endeavor. Once that future event has occurred, the predictive metric is meaningless.

You seriously upset over this? Who cares

(Sorry if this has been answered, but I didn't read the entire thread)
If RPI's purpose is for seeding and tournament placement, then why is it also calculated after the National Champion has been crowned?

Seriously, who cares about RPI. LSU finished #1. Arky finished #3 or #4

When you beat someone 4-5 at the end of the year and you ate behind that team, it proves it has no credibility to be used for anything that matters.

Why wouldn't it be? You plug numbers into a computer and it spits them out. It's only talked about by complete morons, because the ranking is irrelevant at this point, but why wouldn't it exist.
