Aren't we well below the 85 scholarship players on roster at the moment?

I feel like 4 a year seems like a big deal, but with the 25 per class cap and low scholarship numbers we currently have, it won't be that huge of a deal.

Maybe I'm wrong though - please correct me.

We could probably eat a few more too.

Hopefully NCAA doesn’t try and make an example out of this.

It really seems more like regular fraud than some kind of booster money laundering scheme.

1 player over a period of time longer than he was actually at school.

And under different head coach and administration at the University.

And former players were part of it too, well past their time at LSU. And non-players.

It's not really some huge conspiracy to pay LSU athletes, it's a money laundering scheme that happened to have some overlap.

We’re close to 70 I think. Things will work themselves out when these silent recruits don’t put pen to paper.

Youre right, wont be a huge deal.

LSU is 10 scholarships under the limit, and thats after giving three to walkons this summer.

The 8 scholarships over two years will not terribly hurt us.

Like you said, the 25 limit is tougher for us than the 85. The attrition will always be there.

Is it 4 scholarship reduction from the 85 or from the 25 signing class?

I've never seen it on the 25 before, I've only ever seen it on the 85.

But I haven't gone through all the NCAA penalties over the years.

Holy shite. How are we this low? I know we lost a ton of guys to the draft and graduation but let’s say we we had 85 last year (did we?). We lose a massive number to the draft (14) plus another 10 to graduation (now up to 24) plus you had the kids kicked off (27?) plus the 3 opt outs (30).

That’s 55

The you add in the recruiting class. Did we not get 25? That would put us at 80. Where am I missing 10 guys?

Attrition from previous seasons, there is a thread around here, but I think it’s 69 or 70

The evidence is there that Rohan’s family was taking money and then shipping it back through various means.

It was a money laundering scheme with the Rohans.

It probably is the same situation here, but they don’t have the same evidence of the return of cashz

You left off the 6 UDFA's to the NFL. The other 4 might have been processed previously.

yes, they rarely hit the 25 because the "hit on the 25" is actually the reduced visits, evaluations, etc.

In a manner of speaking reducing the 25 limit and reducing the ability to recruit in the same year is viewed as penalizing twice for the same infraction.

The only infraction they would apply to the 25 would have been Orgeron's impermissible contact infraction. And they hit the visits/evaluations/contact on that one.

How will COVID come into play here? If this year doesn't count as a year of eligibility, then all 68 could come back and we only have 17 slots available for the 2021 class to get to 85. Reduce that by 4 and there are 13 slots. Is the NCAA increasing the 85 limit?

Here are some numbers for what we lost. We started the 2019 season with about 82 guys on scholarship and I assume they gave a few scholarships to walk-on's. During the 2019, four players left or were dismissed: Lanard Fournette, Kenan Jones, Dee Anderson and Kendal McCallum.

Since the national championship game, 34 players have left for various reasons:

11 seniors - Burrow, Dillon, Sullivan, Magee, Lewis, Traore, Ferguson, Lawrence, Fehoko, Fulton and Divinity.

9 entered draft early - Jefferson, Cushenberry, Charles, Moss, Edwards-Helaire, Chaisson, Queen, Phillips and Delpit.

1 graduated with eligibility - Savage

3 dismissed - Starks, Parrish, Parker

3 Opt outs - Shelvin, Chase, Vincent

7 transferred - Culp, Campbell, Monroe, Brooks, Pettigrew, Thomas, McLendon.
