It doesn’t have to be one or the other, and it’s silly to think of it in those terms.

You want to keep every talented player that we have but that's just not the age we live in anymore. I trust BK to settle on one guy and the other to leave and I'm fine with that. Neither guy is going to sit around and wait their turn because they don't have to.

We need Matt Flynn to talk to the team about just this concept.

Jayden Daniels needs to declare for the draft so we don't lose any QBs and keep the succession of QBs right.

2022 - Daniels (Nuss and Walker backup) > 2023 draft

2023 - Nuss (Walker and Collins backup) > 2024 draft

2024 - Walker (Collins and Hurly backup) > Collins likely transfer portal.

2025 - Walker (Hurly and another QB backup) > 2025 Walker draft

2026 - Hurly

2027 - Hurly, then Hurly draft.

If Nuss starts 2023 he will also start 2024 unless he doesn't play well.

Dude ain't going pro as a RS soph playing 1 full season

Plus it will never work out like your timeline indicates. It never does

Yep, Matt Flynn was the role model for being patient and waiting your turn. From here on out that's just going to be a rare occurrence at a major program if it happens at all.

It's like the old timers that say they used to walk 5 miles to school. They did it out of necessity. If cars were widely available they wouldn't have done that. If the transfer portal was available back in the early 2000s, Flynn might not have stuck around.

How does anyone know if Howard is even any good?

Now this an absolute take quake. Saying Daniels is worse than Brennan and a true freshman is absolute peak idiocy.

We've actually watched Nussmeier play and play really well

And we’ve also watched him play and play really poorly on several other occasions. It would be foolish to make a long term decision based on one half in a game LSU was always down by 3+ scores. Luckily, the coaches have more information to base a decision on and the expertise to do so. I trust them to know better who is the best QB for the future. That could be either one of them.

If you truly think Nuss only starts in 2023, then why does it matter whether or not Daniels stays? You can just put Daniels in as the starter in 2023 and the rest of your chart stays the same. I would argue that Daniels staying would keep things in place for 2024 and beyond better than him leaving. If Walker is as good as everyone thinks and is ready to start in 2023, Nuss is out the door anyway. If he’s not ready to start in 2023, then he’s more likely to wait behind Daniels for one year than he is to hope that he can win the job over Nuss in 2024.

It is necessary that we keep Walker. I am a Daniels fan but it may be best for all parties for him to go pro. I would be fine with Nuss and Howard.

Nuss is a redshirt freshman, Howard is a true freshman.

Daniels isn't in Walker's way, if anything he buys Walker another year of development. Daniels starts next year, Walker is ready to take over as a redshirt soph.

If Nuss starts next year, that puts Walker's career path in jeopardy. He's only one year behind him, probably wouldn't get a chance to start until 2025.

No one knows, including coaches. We could pretty much shelve this conversation until the spring game but things are slowing down this time of year. Have to talk about something.

What I will say is Walker Howard is BK's guy. He was recruiting him at ND too so that's in his favor. If the two are close I think Howard gets the nod because he's younger and he's BK's guy. I think Nuss will have to be clearly better than Howard to get the spot.

If Flynn had the opportunity to go somewhere and start like these kids do now....the hell you think he would have done? Flynn cant tell these kids nothing its two different eras.
They are only as loyal as their options.

I feel like WH has a good head on his shoulders. I don't know if he's the "start me or I'm out" kinda guy. I could be wrong, I don't know him.

To the crowd that says he loves LSU too much and is 100% LSU - take a look at Bo Nix.

Nix was playing for a coach and OC that didn't recruit and an offense he wasn't recruited to run. He was named the starting QB as a true freshnam as Auburn didn't have an experienced QB on the roster. The program got progressively worse in his 3 seasons and a toxic team environment. How is any of that similar to Howard's situation?

I think it's fine if Daniels comes back another year; that's still only a year.

But like I said, Howard is a fresh, and Nuss is a redshirt fresh. There's one year difference. If Nuss takes the job, Howard either sits most of his career here, or leaves.

Players with good heads transfer all the time. It doesn’t mean you are a bad person or bad teammate. Especially QBs
