Dave Aranda says the interest mainly came from UNLV earlier this month. He says he engaged because he is interested in being a head coach, but it was mainly dipping his toes in the water. #LSU

He deserves to be. He’s been a top coordinator in college football for years. It’s all about the right fit, for him and his family.

I think he thought his “stock” went down this year and he wanted to explore opportunities before they dried up. The thing is, though, if he puts together two great performances in the next two games (and there will be a second game if LSU’s defense plays well vs OU) everyone will forget about the early season struggles.

Nick Saban advised Kirby Smart to wait for the right opportunity. Of course it was self-serving, but it was good advice. The mid-market teams were knocking down the door for Smart, but he waited until a blue ribbon team came calling. That’s what Aranda should do. But if he wants that blue ribbon offer, I think he needs to be more outgoing and less professorial.

He probably won't be around much longer. It's not the end of the world. LSU pays coordinators as well as any school in the country and will be able to attract a top notch replacement.

It’s difficult for me to picture him as a head coach.

If next season looks just somewhat similar to this season, as far as offensive production, Aranda will not even be the most highly sought after coach on the LSU staff.

How long will we be able to do that?

No one is going to hire or pass on Aranda based on two games. Everyone knows when the defense gives up points or shuts someone down its only because of the coach. Shockingly people who make head coaching hires don't base their decisions on the most recent memories like fans.

Looks like the defense slipped this season because he was focused on job shopping.

What do you mean? We will be able to do it as long as we find a highly sought after coordinator to come. If you are going to be a top notch program, then you are going to have coordinators come and go. At LSU you have two options.

Option 1: Want the coordinator to be fired.

Option 2: other programs want to hire coordinator.

Most of y'all wanted him gone at various points during this season.

So not true.
I’m beginning to wonder if some of you are constantly trolling or actually retarded.

He's just sending feelers out and will get mentioned for various jobs but he knows he can do better than UNLV.

I'd say next year will be his last here, it's a natural progression.

Me, either. But you have to shoot your shot in life to find out for sure.

I get what you're saying. He seems like a different personality- at least that's the impression as I see it. That's not a knock- he just seems like more of a thoughtful tactician than the leader of a program....

At any rate, I am grateful for all the man has done for us.

He will get hired based on his interviews and salary demands. He's done well enough as a coordinator to put him in the mix.

He doesn’t have the personality for a HC. Do not see him interviewing well for a top job. Of course he could get a mid major or small school to bite.
