That's the first time I have ever seen him do that. He obviously usually does the Skip method of letting the pitcher give the ball to the next guy. That's when you know you've had a bad outing

I felt really bad for him, he’s young & was put in a big spot.
I was hoping he could settle himself down & get himself out of it but I think JJ made the right call.

I would like to see him & Theo both stay, I think they have the talent, just need more control.

ETA
Paz as well, I think all 3 freshman pitchers should be kept on the roster

It was well deserved after the first three hitters he faced get on base, two of which were free bases.

IF a mid week game, starting the fist with a 0-0 score is too big, I dont know that pitching for LSU is in the cards. Jay is just incredibly frustrated, and it shows. Not recording an out, 2 on base and one in, going to the pen about 6 outs earlier than he thought.

We need strike throwers for next year. I understand taking some guys with potential but you only do that after you’ve landed guys that know how to pitch and throw strikes. We don’t have those guys for next year at this moment. With the limited financial resources, you better get the pitchers you want and tell the guys with potential, this is what’s left over of the pie, take it or leave it. If you want more money then earn it.

I'd like to see Ricken and Theo get sent off for the summer to get starter innings. I think they both would benefit from bulking up innings and figuring things out through volume.

I think they both have talent and potential.

He’s a freshman that was going into his 1st start with 15 innings so far this season
He was amped up / nervous, that will get better with each outing
He needs some confidence which comes with consistency

As he should be but the bright spot right now is the freshman
They have the potential from what we’ve seen

He's a true freshman and isn't Ben McDonald. Give him a minute. There is a reason they recruited him; give it time to come to fruition. The staff knows if this is something to be concerned about.

When they put him back out there for the third inning, that was the tell, IMO.

They're probably going to push him to 75-80 pitches this weekend.

This was Ricken's fourth start this season. Not his first.

Oh nice. I didn't see the post game, I'll have to go back and watch it. Hunt wrote an article about Simpson being on the road recruiting last night. I wonder who he was going see. We just jumped on a JUCO SS in Oklahoma yesterday, but I know they're trying to shore up where they stand with the HS class as well heading into the draft.

Really? Oof

I couldn’t remember him starting before
I have a very short term memory, it amazes me how everyone remembers specific games & stats from previous seasons

My point was I think he has potential, he’s young & can hopefully get some control

they tried to establish him as the midweek guy early in the year but they went in a different direction when it didnt work out I guess they came back around to him to start hoping he could keep us from using other arms but it didnt work out .

I saw the highlights Sunday but not the game, was noot really bad? that was the first time hes pitched in forever. maybe they use Dax dathe or the lefty thats been here a while with the cajun last name,I cant remember it for some reason

after the first 3 got on, I watched Jay just to see if he let Ricken pass the ball to the next pitcher. First time I have seen Jay take the ball, I was like oh...
