Anyone else notice Emery missing the screen in the 2nd quarter?

Emery goes for a block as the the O-line starts to move downfield to block.

Offensive linemen are looking back at Burrow wondering what the hell is going on.

Burrow eventually just tucks it and runs. Herbstreit mentioned how Joe had a "convoy" of linemen blocking for him.

I don't think we saw Emery again for the rest of the game. Hopefully this was a case of just miscommunication rather than simply not know which play is which. But I think this demonstrates why the younger backs still aren't getting that many carries.

I saw it and Joe came up to him right after and told him to get out of the game. Idk if you could see it on tv but he pointed him off the field and CEH came in

Yeah, that play looked weird when it happened, and no, I don't think Emery saw the field again

Joe Brady noticed. Probably had something to do with him not seeing another snap.

Frankly, I think that Emery isn't seeing the field because he read too many of his press clippings.

It's D1 football man. You aren't going to just "talent" your way on to the field.

That's your answer to why the talented young rbs aren't on the field.

People just thought the coaches wanted to ride CEH cause of seniority, no it's obvious Emery isnt getting the playbook yet.

CEH is doing everything we need a running back to do: he runs, he catches, he blocks, he play smart and he is one tough MFer.

I watched the game from the upper deck, so I didn’t have the benefit of replay. I was wondering what that play was about. It definitely unfolded like a screen but I didn’t see Emery. I thought it might a been a planned QB run that was set up to look like a screen.

Regarding Emery, I think the guy is a great runner. He reminds me a bit of Kevin Faulk, and not just because of #3. He’ll learn his lesson from getting pulled. We’re gonna see great things from him down the line.

ETA: Thanks for the correction. Emery is #4. Whoops. Too much brown liquor last night!
I’ll

I don't think it was a screen

were releasing too many people between the where the screen is allegedly supposed to be. He would have had to throw over 4 DL .

Those middle screens usually involve a war catch th ball coming in behind the block.

The announcers said it was a designed run got blown up and joe saved

Emery is #4, Davis-Price is #3.

Can verify, Joe quickly pointed him to the sideline, then Clyde came back in. Missing assignments will cut your playing time quick

Emery wasn't blocking. The DL from Florida saw screen and grabbed the RB and held him. Kid couldn't get away and threw his arms up. Joe took off which was great but should have gotten a holding call on Florida.

Honestly....

Who would have imagined that CEH would rush for 130, pass protect and just straight ball out the way he did against that vaunted Florida D?

For the most part, our offense was tight and solid (which is just normal for this group). But the standout performances of the night (in my worthless opinion) were those by CEH and the entire OL.

When I saw this play in real time it was obvious it was a screen. But I also thought UF blew the play up and Joe made the quick decision to run. I didn’t look at the replay to analyze what happened with 4.

If he missed the play/assignment then he should be sent to bench bc he would have had a massive gain.

Yep. He’s supposed to chip the defender and release out for the screen but the DL made a heads up play. Not really Emory’s fault.

It was wide open too. I would love to have seen Emory in that much space.

CEH is tough and smart, always in the right place. Made the critical block on the Jefferson TD in Texas. I remember an article about Bill Beklicheck, he was asked who was second most important guy on the team after Tom Brady, he said Kevin Faulk because he was always in the right place. The new guys gotta learn.
