I have not seen much discussing them or found online discussing their strengthens and weaknesses.

Everyone seems to be seeing the same things.
Not a power hitting team but they steal a of bases and are great at small ball and manufacturing runs.
Decent starting pitcher that happens to be a lefty.

We're a pretty good defensive team.

Pitching
2 very good starting pitchers.
Not much depth at all behind them. If this goes to a game 3, we 'should' have the advantage assuming Evans is still available to start game 3.
Neither team has a super reliable bullpen so how deep the starters go will be huge. That being said, WV's bullpen was a disaster this past weekend. As inconsistent as ours has been, we still have the advantage there.
Fielding
In another thread people tried to downplay this, but WV made 9 errors in the 3 games of the Clemson regional, including 5 on Sunday vs Kentucky. Hopefully we can buck the trend of the fly outs that we saw this weekend and make WV's defense make the play. I can see us being somewhat aggressive on the bases as well.
Hitting
Offensively, they aren't a power team. They have a .453 slugging percentage (117th in the country) compared to our .515 (ranked 23rd). They don't strike out much. Batting average is basically same as ours (.299 - .300). They like to steal bases - 108 this year vs 50 for us - but I wouldn't call them a 'small ball' team. They have fewer bunts than we do on the year.

Watched them a good bit because I have family that lives in WV and I got to say they are eerie similar to Kentucky of '23 except their starting Pitchers are significantly better but their bullpen is not as good as what Kentucky had in '23. But they are decent. They are another team that if you can get the first man out their offensive production goes down. If they get the leadoff hitter on then they become very dangerous with their small ball/base running style of offense.
Getting the first hitter should be the overwhelming concentration just like it was against Kentucky in '23. They are also a good defensive team but luckily they don't have the number of lefty pitchers that could potentially disrupt the offense. However, their best pitcher who will more than likely start game 1 is a lefty. Game 1 is likely going to be him vs Anderson and timely hitting needs to be at our best.

Sounds like LSU should heavily work the pitch counts on these pitchers. Make them work, make them throw strikes, hit foul balls, get those pitch counts up to get into the bullpen as early as possible

Those of you who stomached to watch last years super of WVU at UNC, you’ll remember a 5’9 senior starter Derek Clark for WVU who nearly pitched 150 pitches in that game.
Their current Friday night guy Griffin Kirn is also a (5th year) senior standing at 6’3 from the left side who will go over 100 pitches in all likelihood. Here’s the number of pitches in his last 5 starts:
- 113
- 77
- 127
- 129
- 118
He also closed out the 9th in their regional final on Sunday and threw 16 pitches. LSU needs to get to him early and elevate his pitch count the first time through the lineup.

Their top 2 starters dont walk guys so might not be the best approach to sit and wait. Frankly its going to be about jumping on them and getting runs early making WVU feel like they have to go to their bullpen which we want.

heat index near 100 will contribute to this effort
