Say what you may about Kling, but he could cover a lot of ground in the outfield and made it look effortless.

If he could have hit .280, he would have kept playing.

I think we have to look at this as an opportunity to bring a stud in. An outfield of Pearson, Brown, and Larson is solid, but it would be great to get a 1st round type of guy out there.

I wonder what Ethan Petry is doing these days?

Doubling down on a bad take. Interesting strategy.

All you guys saying that his arm strength is average must not watch this team much.

Good luck to Paxton wherever he lands!

Think this has a lot to do with Jake Brown.

Why? What good is a great outfielder who can’t hit the ball at all?

Tell that to Schlossnagle, Vitello and Wes Johnson. The portal seems to be working for them.

Wish nothing but the best for the young man, but I am ok with this. He was given an entire year to figure it out. He did not. Johnson seems to have let him know what the truth may be, and I cannot blame Kling for leaving. I understand. Much love, Kling. I hope it works out for the best for you.

Tennessee has 1 everyday starter from the portal, and a couple of pitchers they piggybacked on Friday nights (out of necessity).

They have a couple guys they rotated in at DH, and 1 or 2 relievers from the portal as well.

The overwhelming majority of their roster was put together through the traditional recruiting route.

Hopefully he will work on his stance and motion on his swing. Off balance.

I wanted them to try closing his completely, almost Jack Clark-style with his back fully to the pitcher. Not that extreme, but he's got quick hands, so as closed as he could be and still be able to handle fastballs in. But just concentrate on letting the ball travel and trying to hit line drives over the 2nd basemen's head. And finish balanced, belly-button towards the 2nd baseman/RCF gap. Then gradually move him slightly counter clock wise until they find the perfect spot.

But I think it's gonna take thousands of cage reps/tee work to break him of hat habit of pulling off everything and falling off balance. But it can be done. He's talented enough to figure it out. I hope he does wherever he winds up. I was really impressed with his attitude and how he embraced his role as a late-inning defensive replacement. Not a lot of guys that highly rated humble enough to do that with the positive attitude he seemed to have. I'm pulling for him.

Gotta cut the dead weight taking up scholarships

There are a lot of middle schoolers with a better approach at the plate

This is so stupid.

So what good would sitting on the bench do? It wouldn't help his potential professional career. And I think a lot of you underestimate how much winning the NC last year may affect some of these guys' decisions. They've had roles on a CWS Championship team, played in huge games in the biggest environments college baseball has to offer, experienced Omaha, got rings, etc...Now it's time for some of them to be "selfish."

But I also think some of you forget that sometimes baseball players...actually like to play baseball. Maybe Kling would rather play ever day at a smaller school than be a defensive replacement at LSU because, ya know, he likes playing baseball.

Cannon Peebles was supposed to be their starting catcher. He just didn't pan out this year. He was one of the bigger pickups in the portal last year. 8 of their 35 roster spots are portal guys. LSU has 10 guys on the roster from the portal. Not too dissimilar. (I'm not counting JUCO transfers for either school)

Last year they had Ahuna, Merritt, Dollander, Halvorsen, Lindsey, and Denton who were all transfer starters. Vitello works the portal plenty

Not sure why this is being downvoted.

Because it's semantics. Whether they committed to Paul or signed with him doesn't matter. It's the fact that they have prior relationships with him. And if he's taking Rooney, then they likely have a relationship with him, and he's seen them every day to recommend some (or none) to Paul.

What is the protocol here? I'm not sure Paul and Jay were best friends. But even if they were, is all fair in love and the portal these days? There used to be some unspoken "rule" about assistants taking different jobs not poaching recruits from their previous school. I assume this is all out the window in 2024, though.

Kling was terrible at the plate and it doesn’t look like it was getting better. Those unwilling to acknowledge that need to have their head examined.

Damn, I’m bummed now

I don't know why.

With this program, and Jay's style, you can't play OF without a bat.

And, his bat has not progressed at all since he's been here. He was facing another year where, barring a major step forward in the offseason, he'd be a spot play in the OF.

That's just not good for him. He needs as many ABs as possible.
