Gotta cut the dead weight taking up scholarships

Calling guys dead weight is unfair. Kling contributed plenty with his defense, just never developed enough at the plays to win a spot.

With that said, this team needed to be blown up. Way too lackadaisical for most of the season and outside of the last month they were just a bad baseball team. At least by LSU standards. Jay has a solid freshman core to work with Shores and Noot coming back will have some premium arms to build around.

Good post. I hate when our players transfer out.

Paxton probably sees himself in a limited role if he stays. The clock is ticking. If he wants to be an everyday player, he needs to look elsewhere.

I also think CJJ needs to ask himself why he labeled Paxton as the next Crews (may not be his exact words). That's a really big swing and miss regardless of what other scouts were saying.

What good is a great outfielder who can’t hit the ball at all?

He was improving towards the end of the season, I think he would have continued to improve with consistent at bats

He was one of the kids I really liked & was rooting for

I 100% get that he wasn’t guaranteed a starting role & he may get that elsewhere, I was just pulling for him to have it all come together while at LSU

because every scout in the country said the same thing. . Jay scouted him and saw why Kling had the evaluations he did

sometimes players don't pan out from high school to college. But if every single coach, scout, etc is saying the same thing about a kid, it's hard to say it was just a swing and a miss by Jay personally. There's a reason so few guys who are drafted in the first round of the draft never make it to the major leagues. It's not an easy job to project players from high school.

And this isn't exclusive to baseball. Go look at the 5 star football recruits year to year and look at their offer sheets. Every year is littered with guys you've never heard of because their evals never materialized after high school.

Do we think Jay processed him out?

Jay may not have told him to go, but he didn’t talk him out of it. After 2 years he was basically a late game defensive substitution, if that. Many young players, including true freshman were better hitters. This is the new portal reality “what have you done for me lately”.

Kling always looked like a ball player.. but his bat couldn't find the ball.... I truly hope he finds a place.

He was almost an automatic out at the plate he wasn’t SEC caliber talent, good defensive player and that’s about it here. Good luck

Nope. It's really easy to say: swing and miss.

It's one thing to sign a player based on potential. It's another to see said player in practice everyday and pronounce him the next GOAT. Just look at the 2-year numbers. Math is math.

That was a swing and miss.

Yes I’m not sure why people have a hard time admitting Kling is a bust. He’s pretty damn bad.

This sucks. There's an excellent ballplayer in there somewhere.

You're being very kind. He was a complete liability at the plate. His lack of improvement cost the team this year. The coaches were banking on him being able to at least hit over .260, I'm sure, but all he could manage was .222, second to last on the entire squad.

His swing was pull only. And his hands aren’t fast enough to hit SEC pitching.

Jay said that in February of last year

and you know who else said that? Paul Skenes
quote:

“He’s a stud. And people are saying, you know, along the way that he could be the next Dylan Crews,” said Skenes. “So, you know, that’s a high mark to achieve, obviously, because of everything that Dylan’s accomplished. But I would say that if there’s one person that I’ve met who can do it, it’s Paxton. He’s a special, special guy, a special player, but special human. I got pretty close to him this year, and it was obviously awesome to accomplish what we did with him and I really can’t wait to see what he’s going to accomplish.”

Joe Burrow said Ed deserved a lifetime contract. Kids say things based on their familiarity and connection with coaches and players. Hyperbole is rampant.

Hunt Palmer went through his stats from sec play in 2023 and 2024 and also his stats from the cape league last summer and he went 23/120 .192 average, 2 HR, 20 BB and 47K’s. I’m upset we are losing a late inning defensive sub who was a stud at that. But I’m certainly not upset that we are losing Kling in general. All that hype everyone is talking about in here but he’s simply never come close to putting it together the plate. I mean those are fricking Hal Hughes batting stats, completely unacceptable

Well, only the players and coaches saw him in practice every day. So who else would be qualified to make a statement based on the post I responded to?

Btw, in the spring scrimmages leading up to this season, Kling had the third highest OBP on the team and was 2nd on the team in the fall. He also had one of the best K% on the team in both the fall and spring. By all indications of what h showed in practice, it wasn't unreasonable to expect him to have a better season than he did.

You know who had a terrible fall, spring, and summer ball last year? Jared Jones. But he did the opposite and had a really good season. SOme of y'all act like coaches should be soothsayers

He was one hell of a outfielder though. I just wished he would have hit at least 250

Learning to hit quality pitchers is not an easy thing to do. I will go as far as to say it may not be a learnable skill IMO.

I wish him the best and appreciate his hustle for LSU. The kid really played hard.

Good. He needed to go. You don’t come to LSU and play mediocre. You get better or pack your bags
