All I wanted to know is what info he was using to arrive at his opinion, that’s all
I've been a fan of Echols since he was recruited as well. If you watch his HS tape he plays angry and aggressive, finishes blocks and has a good lower center of gravity. He was considered a good future option at center too.

Mubenga is super soft, LSU can’t afford to have him being blown back into Nuss’ lap again like last year.
Personally I saw improvement in mubenga game to game. Did not see that with Chester

really seems like they have been trying to give him every opportunity to lock in a spot due to his starting experience he just won't take it.
No offense to the kid, but I didn't see anything in the games last season that flashed either in blocking ability or snaps. In a perfect world we should have gotten a portal center before last year. Chester was not ready for that job.

There's still a need to have Chester develop into the best player that he can be just in case of injury during the season & he is forced to play.
Thats great, do it with the 2nd team, its pretty clear at this point he aint it as a starter.

Everyone is rotating & getting plenty of reps. No one is being neglected there.
Point is they pretty much know what they have with Chester at this point. He is a 3rd year guy and still absolutely getting owned with the 1s. Yes Mubenga has taken some reps with the 1s and Echols a little bit as well, my point is, they need to take all the reps with the 1s at this point and let someone who should actually be starting practicing the most with the 1s on the OL, they need time to gel as well. Again, Chester really doesnt seem to be it so not sure what they are hanging onto with him.
Heck even give Curne more looks, yes hes a freshman but you gotta get a good look at your most talented guys who have a chance of being a mainstay compared to someone who just looked pitiful all last season and hasnt improved seemingly moving to a different position in Chester.

I think the other guys might suck too
There's no chance all the other guys are as bad or worse than Chester. I mean he graded out basically as the worst starting OL I can even find in our PFF grades going really far back.
In the SEC last year of those OLineman who played at least 500 snaps (77 total players) he ranked 73rd with a sub 50 PFF grade. Going back to 2014 in PFF we havent had a single starting OLineman grade out below a 50 on the season, had ONE guy in the low 50s, everyone else in mid-high 50s or higher.
That's a pretty big outlier
To be fair to him, Mubenga graded out lower than he did last season but his last 3 games were at least decent improvements from the games before that. Mubenga wasnt good at all, but he at least almost got to average. At least Mubenga's excuse is he had to get thrust into action due to injury to someone else. Chester was a 1 from day 1 and just completely sucked throughout the season.

The entire LSU offense is soft.

You just wanted to know but acted like an arse asking the question.
1. Echols was highly rated and if you go watch his film, played with a mean streak in HS.
2. Echols played really well against Baylor.
3. Chester and Mubenga have quite a bit of tape out there getting bullied by defenses.

We’ve seen guys take big jumps from year 1 starter to year 2 but if you aren’t seeing that jump in practice then it’s not going to happen come game time. What would really piss everyone off is if they roll Chester or Mubenga out there and they play like crap only to have Echols or Curne come in for them and look competent. We can’t frick around again in the opener this year.

This just means we have depth

One of the "pros" of Chester as a recruit was that he played with a mean streak
quote:
Plays with noteworthy effort and violence. Natural drive-blocker whose size and functional strength overwhelm smaller targets. Regularly takes blocks to the ground as a finisher with conviction. Run-game mauler with traits to translate those qualities to high-major level.
Often times its not about a guy being "soft" or not playing "mean" It's that he's getting beat because of poor technique and being out leveraged by the defender. I don't care how "mean" an OL is. If he's in poor leverage position the defender is going to beat him...often embarrassingly so. You can be as pissed off as you want to be trying to run block. But if your pad level is too high or you aren't in good spot to square up the defender he's going to beat you. That's probably what you saw a lot from Chester last year combined with uncertainty

When he replaced Dellinger last season the OL completely fell apart. He and Chester were both absolute liabilities. Surely, between Echols, Thomas and Curne we can upgrade that position. By seasons end

Chester is in the wrong spot. He’s a tackle and so is Mubenga. Somehow they’re trying to turn them into guards.

Thomas’ foot needs to heal up quick

It is telling that we had 4 OL drafted into the NFL, yet our OL was sub-par. Tells you just how weak Chester was at C when 4 NFL guys cannot carry him. I know that 1 was hurt and the affected the whole OL a lot, but Chester NEVER looked good all year.

Good luck putting Chester at T, he was absolutely lost all year on the inside and was too slow all year.
Face it, Chester is not LSU material.

exactly. they have had ample time to prove it, and they have failed.
Curne should play LG, simply to put as much strength as possible to stop the bull rush into Nuss' face. Thompson has to play RG. LG is our weakest link and if Mubenga plays at all in a SEC game, we are in serious trouble.

Curne
Probably the strongest or one of the strongest on the team, as a true freshman.
Might not be ready for Clemson but could see him starting by Florida
