Am I the only one that doesn't think our Secondary was bad vs FSU?

I don't think they were great by no means, but it wasn't like they were getting picked apart. Every deep pass was a contested throw in 1 on 1 coverage. Our DBs always hade their hands in the catch zone causing a few PBUs. Most of the short stuff were checkdown slants to a 6'7" reciever being covered by a linebacker or safety. FSU didn't often have wide open recievers and the only time they did was short crossers that weren't even the DBs responsibility. I also cant blame our dbs for getting beat after 10 seconds of the QB siting in the pocket because our D-line was geting zero pressure in obvious passing downs (mostly schematic), specifically I was actually impressed at how well our secondary held their own against probably a top 3 receiving core in the country.
I think this was a coaching failure through and through. Daniels has to take some blame for refusing to push the ball down field. But this was a offensive and defensive masterclass on what not to do against a playoff caliber team. Offensively we were too conservative when marching down the field, but then too fancy in short yardard situations. Defensively we wouldn't bring extra rushers until it was so obvious it hurt, then instead of doing a 5 or 6 man blitz on third downs we either rush 3 against one of the best passing offense in the country giving JT 10+ seconds to find a reciever or we send a 7 man blitz on a 5 reciever set walking straight into a RB screen like fricking retards... like what the actual frick were they thinking?

We must have been watching different games

They were in position to make some plays but got out played athletically on some of those balls. Their receivers were just better. We won’t see better this year.

Yes you are the secondary stunk and was outmatched

The DBs actually weren’t too bad positioning wise.
The LBs on the other hand looked like Ray Charles during zone coverage

i agree that they weren't that bad. they had great coverage on some of those plays FSU made. their QB could actually throw some nice passes.

They were wide open on short and intermidiate passed up the middle, not deep. Your linebackers and box safety is usually responsible for those passes.

Yes we will I’m so fricking tired of fans saying this A&M is capable of doin the exact same shite to us their wideouts are jus as good. Evan Stewart and Noah Thomas are damn animals Stewart is even more explosive then either Coleman or Wilson

Yes. The talent just isn't there

We need to put Perkins back on the edge where he is at his best. Using him as a spy just isn’t working out for our defense in my opinion.

Depending on draft service, Keon Coleman is expected to be the second or third WR off the board, the same as Malik Nabers.

Agreed he was simply not impacting the game enough being used purely as a MLB spy. Gotta let him rush the passer and be disruptive

I do believe it is one of those 'not as bad as it looked' situations. They did lose some coverage and missed a few tackles, but they were in good position on a few of those K. Coleman big plays where the ball was thrown perfectly. One could argue we played the best QB/WRs combo we'll see all season.
Not ready to give up on this group. They were further hurt by ZERO sacks (see other threads about HP) and if that does not change our DBs, regardless of who they are, will continue to get victimized.

Yea, I despise Perkins at MLB. I always have. I think he would be an insanely good MLB eventually, maybe the best ever at LSU, but he looked overloaded at MLB Sunday night. He isn't ready mentally to go up against a offense like FSU. Sometimes he looked good, especially in coverage. But other times he looked glued in place (I get it he was spying often) but even when he was supposed to stuff the gap or rush the passer he would often freeze.

I think the biggest problem with the CB play will be against taller receivers. Our boys could not make the plays against a great QB.

The middle of the field was open all day

Another point: Was every single secondary we played against in 2019 bad, or were Joe Burrow and his receivers great?
We faced an excellent QB with excellent receivers. THAT's what happened. If we were going to beat FSU it was going to be because our offense outperformed theirs. THAT's what didn't happen.

Perkins has to play that rush backer/edge position. Maybe if Maason Smith comes back and just destroys the line with double teams he can be effective at rushing the QB from MLB. But I would personally always have Perkins on the edge with two linebackers in base package. Then put in another edge like swinson or ovie and drop a linebacker on heavy sets.
