CWS discussion got this in my head.

To the powers that be:

Why not have a All Louisiana tournament before conference schedule starts?

Similar to college basketball invitationals.

Zephyr Field is available.

LSU, Tulane, UNO, SLU, ULL, Tech, maybe Nicholls and McNeese?

Because it would be a waste of a weekend that could be spent playing a good team from outside of our region.

We should never play anyone within driving distance on a weekend.

100%. I would rather be at home or on the road playing a ACC team or a Big 12 series.

Why waste a weekend on that? And Zephyr Field is a dump TBH.

It doesn’t matter who we play in February.

We waste a weekend on Maine, what’s wrong with bringing back a Winn-Dixie Classic?
And ULL, La Tech, Tulane are better than most teams we play early in season anyway.

Sounds fun, as a fan.

I'd rather Biloxi. Make it LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St, and then invite 3 ACC schools.

You mean like Maine, or Bethune Cookman, or Oral Roberts, or UTSA, or Air Force, or Youngstown State, or Eastern Kentucky, or UMass Lowell, etc.

Get out of here with that crap. the instate schools have better RPI's than that crap list i just listed from the last 3 years.

It would be a great tourney to have for a 3-4 day weekend to start the season. Let 8 teams play in it.
LSU
Tulane
ULL
UNO
Nichols
Southeastern
LA Tech
McNeese
ULM
Southern
Grambling
Northwestern State

Have two 4 team brackets and play it like a regional starting on a Thursday, just make the championship game for each bracket and the "super regional" championship game be winner take all instead of double elimination. Let whoever wins it host it the next year. first two teams eliminated don't play the next year and let 2 new teams in it.

Would be a ton of fun for both the fans and the players.

this

i mean taht tourney should happen, just should be everyone but LSU. Waste of time and RPI potentially boosting opponent for LSU.

this is one of the biggest problems with lsu fans. always worried about if it will be a fun weekend drinking, not whats best for the team

Might as well host it at LSU and make some money off of it.

This would be a fair point if we didn't already play these teams during the season.

That’s what it’s all about though. If the team is good we’ll see after 11 weeks of SEC competition

Ummmm, I don't think so. The Ruby changes have made it unplayable for baseball without major changes back, and then it needed lots of upgrades.

We shouldn't be playing them either. I don't think anyone is saying that.

You need one series like that each season. Ideally you find a good small conference team that's going to do well in their conference and you can beat the shite out of.

Maine kind of fits that bill. Oral Roberts generally does too.

The problem is that we also had Towson and Bethune Cookman on weekends. And two games against Southern on a weekend. We shouldn't be playing any SWAC schools that aren't based in Louisiana.

Of the in state schools, we really should only play a handful of them every single year. The rest should be on a rotation. Southern, SELU, Tulane, Tech, and ULL every year. The others on a rotating basis. You'd really only skip 1 out of like 5 years or something like that. It's doable. But Nicholls, NWST, UNO, ULM, McNeese, and Grambling aren't consistent enough to play every single year.

Add Lamar and South Al into that rotation and USM to the every year schedule and that's a pretty good midweek slate.
