The ESPN announcer said that while fielding a call from a young kid calling into the radio station, Tug McGraw answered his question honestly.

“Mr McGraw, do you prefer grass or AstroTurf?”

“I’ve never smoked AstroTurf!”



Don’t know how true it is, but it’s epic in baseball lore!

Two reasons not to have turf fields.

1. Turf burns



2. This picture...'nuff said.

Compacted clay on a properly maintained field will destroy you on slides as well. Turf has pros and cons but far more pros.

Is grass better? Of course.
But there are pros of having a turf field.
