Alabama kicker stepped offsides on his onside kick

Bama’s kickers left foot crossed the line before he delivered the onside kick, no way this was legal. Rewatching the 2019 games, Fla really gave LSU a battle as did Aub, LSU’s offense and defense won both those games.

Pretty sure the kicker is allowed as he is no threat to retrieve the ball

That's usually how it works.

Kickers routinely cover onside kicks.

Quite simply yes he was offsides. I’ve seen that call made before.

LSU’s offense and defense won both those games.

An exception is made in this case just as an exception is made for a placeholder putting his knee on the ground.

Didn’t mater and we got some calls our way in that game, esp Moss. It was a non factor

Gary Danielson never mentioned it, of course if the roles had been reversed and LSU’s kicker has stepped offsides, Gary would have had a similar melt to Moss stepping out at the goal.

On kickoff, if the non-kicking (plant foot) foot of the kicker steps across the line prior to him striking the ball, is this a penalty?
The kicker is an exception to the rule on being offside on a kickoff. He may have his plant foot ahead of the ball or free kick line.

Hot take, Booger McFarland. In other news, water is wet.

Don’t believe.

I’ve never seen a single kicker called offside for having his plant foot past the ball. Not fricking once.
Yes I’m aware they can recover an onside kick.

I agree.
But would they call offsides if the kicker’s plant foot took multiple steps off sides to improve his angle of approach?

15-0, touted as one of the best teams of all time, and still whining about an insignificant play in the Bama game.

This is a perfect example of a “you don’t have to start a topic for everything that pops in your head” threads.
