Worst road trip in the SEC I’ve taken (been to all except Vandy and Mizzou). Just the worst experience I’ve ever had as a visiting fan from the fans, the campus cops, and the stadium “security”
Not sure what to tell you, some UF fans claim that it was a past President of the university that forced the police to “crack down” on tailgates/opposing fans and it doesn’t happen anymore but I refuse to spend any more money to try.
Don’t plan to tailgate with any kind of “drinking games” (cops will constantly harass), don’t plan to walk around with a drink (saw so many tickets written for fans who stepped from grass on to sidewalks), sit in your seat and never stand or talk to or interact with any UF fans in the stadium (the cops/game security were constantly kicking LSU fans out of the visiting section for “not listening” to their BS commands after “complaints” from the Florida fans).
After seeing how much fun it is to go to Athens, Lexington, Knoxville it’s a shame LSU has to visit that shithole every other year

Same! Worst sporting event I’ve experienced. 2 out of 10, do not recommend.

ponte vedra is also a good area to stay and closer to Gainesville than Orlando and Jax. I’d stay there, drive up for the game that day, then drive back and enjoy that area. It’s a solid beach town. Gainesville is a shite hole. I grew up in Orlando and have been to UF/LSU quite a few times and it’s by far the worst experience. I’ll never go back.

Too late for a hotel anywhere near Gainesville. We've always stayed in Lake City 45 minutes north of G'ville along I-75. I have been to LSU@UF games many, many times as we lived in ATL area for 27 years and it was easy to get to. UF fans are not easy to get along with in most cases.

I have gone to Gainesville and had a decent time. Flew into Jacksonville and rented a car. I actually stayed somewhere in Gainesville. Brought the car in and parked it on a lot on campus the night before and ubered back to the hotel. The next day we ubered back to campus so we were able to tailgate from the car and drive it back to the hotel after the game. Call campus and see if that is still allowed.
Steer clear of big groups of Florida fans partying or you will get fricked with. There’s a row of restaurants and bars across from the stadium for some good places to hang out as well. As the others say, don’t bring any alcohol outside or you will be arrested.
Honestly, flori\da fans are pretty bad…..but nowhere near as bad as I have seen our fans treat visiting fans.

We payed twenty bucks to park in the frat lot, and had a good time. We hung out there, drank, met some nice people, and never had anybody bother us over open containers. The entire time before the game we were thinking, “UF isn’t as bad as people say…”
They beat us that year, and walking out of the stadium was an entirely different experience, and you can see why Gainesville has its reputation. Their fans were awful. We were like, “Let’s get the hell out of here before something bad happens.” It’s a strange place, but I don’t regret going. It’s worth seeing at least once.
I thought Ben Hill Griffin was a cool stadium. Good atmosphere. It was about as loud as Jordan-Hare. If it is a 2pm kickoff, and you are sitting in the LSU section, wear your sunscreen, because the sun will be pointing directly at you for the entire game.

I’m not fond of Gainesville in the least bit, and Gaytor fans can suck it. Just don’t be an idiot, obey the laws and steer clear of the Orange and Blue.

Yep…my ticket had “sunshine seats” listed beside the section number…it didn’t take long to understand why!

This was exactly my experience. Paid to park in the front yard of a frat house. Saw Gabe Northern walking around near our tailgate (1 of 4 tents I saw set up). He told me his wife had just gotten a ticket for an open container. Even though there were gator fans with open containers that the police didn't bother. There is ZERO tailgating atmosphere. Everyone hangs out at a row of bars just off campus.

Whenever we kick their arse, make their fans never forget it.

I lived in Gainesville for awhile for work and have been to 2 games and didn’t have any negative experiences with UF fans. The town definitely is crap though. Best to just get in and get out. If your flying in to Jville or Orlando just get a hotel there. For parking couldn’t tell you any tricks, just drive around campus closest you can get to the stadium and find an available lot.

Man.. I need to knock out the Florida away game too and now I’m not looking forward to it in the future
Exactly what I have been thinking. I have been checking off away games in the SEC for the past five years. I want to go to a Florida game but I don’t want to go also.

hotels.
Look in Ocala, there are a bunch of hotels. Primarily for the horse breeders but only filled during the weeks when there are horse shows. It’s about 40 min drive.
