PotatoChip actually nailed what is going to happen with Milam. Not sure if he is guessing or has inside info. Down to the $$$.

It doesn't matter if Milam stays another year or not, he's not starting his pro career in AA.

the pros aren’t paying close to what they pay in the “pros”

In the minors you get like 30k and your signing bonus.

it just depends on what the signing bonus is.

You have absolutely no insight as to what LSU will offer a guy like Milam

I'm not trying to be argumentative. Truly. But do you have such insight? Because $700k for a single players seem really high. The college baseball marketplace doesn't seem to be that big.

The majority of the market is not that big but LSU absolutely can swing it!

I might need to start a new thread and someone explain this to me. Alex Box stadium is sold out each season…

30+ games, 12k attendance at least, avg ticket price is $15 - That’s at least $180,000 per home game.

$5.4 million in just ticket sales each season. Sponsorships, suites, boosters, etc… are extra.

How the hell are we poor? Lol

the kid hit close to .300 and the best SS in the country. What more do you want from an infielder?

Baseball dont get NIL, players do. Baseball gets revenue share, and yes they will get a higher share, what is needed is to make that up with NIL

Quick breakdown of 2025 baseball financials

Total revenue (Money made) 10,066,800
Total expenses (Money spent) 10,988,607
Net Loss -921,607

Just a quick search and you can get the same information.

That's just your estimated revenue

It's expensive to operate LSU baseball

In 23-24 LSU baseball generated $6,476,138 in revenue. That's good!

Unfortunately, it had expenses totaling $8,444,469...which means it operated at a nearly $2M deficit

LINK

LSU baseball is not "poor", at all, relative to the college baseball market place. But its not so lucrative to pay a bunch of "salaries" at or above minor-league value either.

I'm holding out hope that we get him back but I also understand it's low odds. We're going to spend big $ on a SS next year and I'd much rather it be the known commodity than someone in the portal

Not a chance we’re paying a baseball player $700k

Milam would definitely be worth every cent of that.

He is currently a sixth round draft grade. One more year at LSU, he probably goes to AA instead of A according to Theriot. Sixth round money is around 400-500k. Baseball will get a much larger nil next year.

He will have zero signing bonus leverage for the 2027 draft if he comes back next year.

For example, Gavin Dugas 6th round pick:
Signing Bonus: He signed for $20,000 (well below the slot value of ~$357,500 for that pick, as a senior sign)

As of right now you are correct but if the ncaa goes with the 5 years removed to play rule could he get a 5th year and another year of leverage? I know that is something that has been thrown around alot the last couple months.

And you don’t know either. I know a players family on the team and he isn’t even special, and he got like 70k for a year. They pay much more then you think for the right guys

I like Ryan, but I don’t know about this. If anyone can provide examples of college guys of any age starting their pro careers in AA, I will be happy to admit I was wrong.
