Last time LSU made back to back NCAA tournaments: 2005-2006

Last time LSU won games in back to back tournaments: 1986-1987

With one more win LSU will finish above .500 in league play for consecutive years for only the second time this century

And will be our 7th NCAAT appearance since the 00-01 season

Is this team great? No.

Are they playing well right now? Hell no.

But as a program we're in the best place we've been since the 80s... so can we pump the brakes on acting like LSU under Will Wade is imploding?

4 threads on the front page blaming or criticizing the fans but God forbid the coach gets any. But hey at least the team used to be even worse! Silver linings!

There's a big difference between criticizing the coach and literally wanting him fired (which I've read at least twice on here tonight)

No one is calling for Wade to be fired and everyone recognizes he has done a good job overall. But I simply don’t understand how it is so off-base to point out a GLARING criticism of his approach.

Is it not reasonable to ask why a team that over the past 2 season has ranked in the top 10 (on average) in the NATION in offensive efficiency has managed to play in so many close games, regardless of venue or opponent? We’re talking a national championship level group of scores who somehow rarely manage to put anyone away

I can link to two posts about it tonight.

His defensive coaching has left a lot to be desired for sure, and it's frustrating as hell.

But to act like he should lose his job or that we're not making the NCAAT is laughable

I don’t see how the sky is falling because first there has to be a sky to fall.
as you point out LSU basketball has been crap. Nothing to fall.

Wade has done a piss poor job of developing this team. They reached their peak in January.

Acting like fans can’t hold Wade to a high standard is bullshite.

If you can't appreciate what Wade means to this program, watch some Johnny Jones and Johnson coached games.
Don't expose your lack of knowledge.

I think Wade is a good coach. Right now they only have a couple of good players. The main problem right now is that there is no point gaurd and that puts a strain on the whole offense. Mays and Williams are good.
Watford and days have alot of potential. Smart and Taylor are extremely overated

If you would have told me kentucky would shoot 100% from 3 in second half and 50% for the game I would have said we got killed. kentucky was not a good 3 point shooting team and the guy that went 3-3 hadn't made a 3 in last 3 games. yes, LSU should have been more agressive closing out once they realized Kentucky was hot from 3 but if we hit our normal FT % we win the game. If we don't make a couple of stupid turnovers late we win the game. Manning coming back was huge and will only get better as he gets his legs back.we are right there. no need to panic. Shame they didn't pull it out because when hagan went out that opened the door for us. Wade is doing a great job with what he has. You can't expect a great team without a true point guard and mays is still a liability on dribble penetration but he is so valuable everywhere else. It is what it is.

That is pathetic. Just because we MIGHT do something that hasn’t happened in years/decades doesn’t make it that great of an accomplishment.

Not really. The big difference is they are on the other side of close games now. A few bounces go wrong, and this team could be 7-6 right now in league play. They did not peak in Jan

Losing to Auburn on the road, @Alabama, and UK at home are acceptable losses. Vandy was not

Wade is a great coach, but we just don't have the team. Watch his post game press conference when he talks about "the same player always being out of position game after game" (I'm assuming Watford). A reporter asked him, "What do you do about it?" and he said "Nothing you can do but continue to get on him. We don't have anyone else to put in."

Wade is a good coach. We have a big man on the bench right now (transfer) and some solid recruits coming next year. We'll get there, but I definitely don't see a problem with criticizing this team. These past couple of weeks have been painful.

By no means are we a lock for the NCAA tournament and we are getting very close to being on the bubble. You may need to pump the brakes a little bit. These next two games will be incredibly difficult with the way this team is playing right now.

Thanks. Perspective is important. But so is defense, and this team can’t guard the perimeter to save its life. I don’t understand how it’s sow thing that hasn’t been fixed. We go under screens, we close out too early, we look lazy.
