I think this is a big part of what Gaines is bringing right now. He's making the other team's best guard work extremely hard all game. McGhee wasn't nearly as effective late in the game

They also started face guarding him and attempted to completely take him out of the offense. It worked pretty well. It was clear that their offense goes as he goes, whether he was creating his own shots or creating wide open shots for whitey. He was pretty damn good. They reminded me a lot of St. Thomas Moore. Have that quick, super athletic guard who just creates while everybody else serves their role perfectly within the offense.

Nobody shoots 3's like teams playing LSU, it seems.

Difference is this team CAN play D.

I turned the TV on at 52-47, I guess shortly after this. It was a 19-2 after I started watching. First basketball I watched this season!

I'm quickly getting excited about the future of this team. Eason, Murray and Fudge will get some big time valuable experience this year, while not being asked to carry the load. I would hope that they don't entertain leaving.

I would guess that Reid is the only one who would be at a real risk of leaving. A lot of that would probably be dependant on how his outside shooting is. Staying another year or two to develop an outside shot for him could make him a lot more money.

If we somehow return that core, with Gaines having another year under his belt, this team next year could be scary good. And we aren't even talking about transfers or incoming freshman, and we all know Wade can recruit.

Defense my friend. Smothering defense and transition basketball.

This right here is what separates this team from the 2018-'19 squad, in my opinion. This team can and will score like that one did, but the defense is vastly superior to that one, and the transition baskets it provides takes a ton of pressure off this team to have to make so many outside shots as previous Wade teams have had to do.

And what's even better, is it's a young team that's just 3 games in. That '18-'19 team was young and didn't really even resemble a tournament team for the first 8-10 games. They were just barely surviving, with flashes of their potential. This team is already looking like a contender, and they're going to get a lot better.

So you read the Title of the post, clicked the thread, hit reply, typed out a smart arse response, hit submit and waited for someone to show you some attention.

When you could just read what I posted and went on with your life and would have had your answer.

Well done.

The charge on Gaines wasn't even close to a 50/50 call. I'm not sure how you can be that bad at your job.

They played hard the first half but shots were not dropping this they couldn’t press like they wanted. CWW post game press conference.
FWIW - he was very pleased with the defense in the first half.

you guys need to tone it down a bit.
Who on this team can get a basket or create at the end of games? We haven't seen that yet, and i have no idea who that is going to be.

2019 had Tremont doing basically everything on offense. when Bigby-Williams was inserted into the starting lineup, they became a defensive force.

I'm as excited as any about this team, but they have a ways to go if they want to do what 2019 did, and that's not me saying they won't, just that we need to see who's going to step up offensively down the stretch of close games.

and i agree that they are better defensively, and they are going to have to rely on that to win games, but their length and athleticism isn't going to allow them to go on 20-0 runs against teams with equal talent like they are doing now.

I don't know who started this mythical idea that you have to have a particular player who makes shots at the end of games. It's fine if you have that, but isn't the point of the game to score points and defend as a team? Darius Days can hit outside shots as well as anyone, and Pinson has an established history in this league of being a guy that can get to the rim. I'm not worried about our end of game play making ability.

Who said their length and athleticism was going to be the only thing that carries them? These are skilled ball handlers who can get to the rim as well as create shots for others, and everyone has shown the ability to shoot from long range. LSU's length is going to make it very hard for teams to beat them inside, or defend them inside on the other end. And the depth just keeps coming at you. It's relentless. I don't know why you would say this team has a long way to go, when they are already far better than they were at this stage of the season in 2018-19. Liberty is a legitimate team, and this young team took a difficult challenge in the first half and completely turned the tables in the second.

I am banking on the idea that they will continue to improve. I don't think I need to tone anything down. I didn't make my statements without considering what I was saying, and why.

I will cautiously agree with you. I’m still nervous that the offense apparently will run through Days. Maybe it’s the fact that I have watched him for so long be inconsistent, but that does worry me. I hope I’m wrong & his time in the program will pay huge dividends.

However, maybe this team has 3-5 guys that will step up when needed at the end of close games. We haven’t had one of those to know the answer.

Until we do have a close game at the end, I will enjoy double digit wins & holding opponents to less than 60 points per game.

Things look very promising for this team. BUT, the real test is DEc 29 through Jan 22...@Auburn, UK, UTenn, @Fla, Arkansas, @Bama, and @Tennessee.
