Defenses are always ahead of offenses this time of year.

I had the same problem when I played with LSU against Clemson in week 1 on NCAA 26. But we got it figured out week 2 against LaTech. LMAO

Suspect our D may be nasty and the OL will improve throughout the season.

Concerning a bit with this stat. This is between first and second offenses. First offense was going against second D. We only had one play with positive yards and it was a 2 yard gain. Beleive this was in redzone/goaline offense.

This site has evolved into a place where anything other than ignoring a problem is unacceptable.

Downvotes are currently at a 9:1 ratio and the OP is a fair assessment of a small part of scrimmage.

Our fanbase is SOFT.

LSU's 2 deep on defense is thick with depth. Actually, LSU has NFL players 2 deep on their entire defense. They're not a normal 2nd string unit.

It's goal line defense, and you're concerned because we had trouble running the ball?

Yes?

Haven't ran the ball since BK got here. What makes this year so different? They are still going to throw it 40 times a game. Nuss isn't here to hand it off.

Offense was absolutely housing the D in fall practice the last 2 seasons. This is a real turn-around.

not worried about offense. you can win games by just throwing the ball ,if its just about ball control then quick passes and screens until the box is light enough to run on. there's always more than a couple ways to skin a cat/ tiger/aligator/fig/elephant/rooster/whatever .

I mean you can say that, but in order to win a national championship, we are going to have to run the ball much better than we did last year.

maybe, shouldn't be hard to do. I bet we would have won in 2019 without running a single run play

Heard we were going to exhume Woody Hayes and his 3-yards and a cloud of dust schemes.

Which players are going to be "starting" at which positions on the offensive and defensive lines?

Last in the SEC at 116 yards a game. I'm not going to google red zone rushing because I know what the answer is.

LSU rushing yards in 2019 was 2,570 during regular season, 15-0, NC.
LSU rushing yards in 2024 was 1,513, 9-4
LSU rushing yards in 2023 was 2,660 (JDaniels most of it) if we had a decent defense we would have won a NC with JD. 10-3

If we cannot rush for at least 100 or more a game, another 9-3 season. From reports I'm hearing and seeing the OL is our biggest weakness so far. We still have 2+ weeks. Better pick the starting 5 CBK to get the chemistry down. Our defense is very good this year but so is Clemson's.

Maybe.

However, the 2019 team was 5th in red zone scoring %. Last year's team was 83rd. The lack of the running game really hurt LSU once they got inside the 10.

Hell, just look at the first drive of the Alabama game. Thomas returns the kick to the 50. On the first play Durham breaks loose for 45 yards. 1st & goal at the 5...LSU settles for a FG.

If I remember right it was fairly evenly matched with the reports of Chase versus Stingley looking like two NFL pros having epic battles. I do not believe one side dominated consistently.

And for the record, I’m NOT saying that now. The defense could have had a better practice today and get beat tomorrow.

Well we hired Atkins as run game coordinator. He oversaw the worst rushing offense in big time football. 2.85 yds per attempt. We stunk and were over 4.
