If you look at this team realistically, it was always a 3-4 loss team. There is no depth, totally new culture and roster that was cobbled together quickly to try to put a winning product on the field. What we have is 4 or 5 elite players and the rest are just good. A few injuries and the drop off is significant. Look at Bama and Georgia. Kirby has serious depth with quality players. Deboer struggled building his roster for three years, but it is looking like a typical Bama team now. Depth has to be built with program players, stud players recruited as freshman and work their way into playing time. We have a few of those....Deuce, Brown, Anderson, and a handful of others. Kiffin was 55-19 at Ole Miss. He built that program the by the blueprint above. We are competitive and should have won that UK game, but I expect Kiffin to have this train rolling like a well oiled machine in year 3.

Cope.

Kentucky has a new coach, new team. They won.

With the portal, every year is going to have high attrition.

Not anywhere near the level we are dealing with.

And he’ll have a full cycle to recruit instead of three weeks for portal and two months to NSD anyway.

If you think it’s cope saying this off-season was an anomaly in how Lane will build a roster going forward I don’t know what to tell ya.

Kentucky had 45 new additions to their team. LSU had 63. Not exactly like for like scenarios.

In year 3 when we fill in a few necessary spots with portal studs, and the young studs are in year three with quality experience, I'll be fully confident. Until then, I'll be cautiously optimistic. Thinking differently is irrational at this point.

Who do you think has more talent today? LSU or UK ?

Regardless, we were never winning a title in year one, making the playoffs would just be icing on the cake. Once Lane has a real full year, I'll judge.

Brother, teams with less talent win every week in every sport at any level.

Nick Saban never played a team with more talent after 2010 and even the GOAT himself still lost a game or two every single year.

This isn’t the gotcha you think it is.

Talent doesn’t matter as much in today’s CFB. As of now, Kentucky has a better team and cast that fits their identity. We just have too many holes on offense to be elite yet.
I would bet my house that we have a much improved offense next year with Sam in year two and a better supporting cast. This will be the weakest roster LK has on offense in his tenure at LSU.

Not exactly sure what to think about our defense right now.

.. Kiffin is not Saban... Wanna bet Kiffin just needs "more time and more money"??.. He paid 50mil for the roster, if this was a "rebuilding year", why not save half that money and get the guys you really want next cycle..it may be a never ending loop

This is a 50mil roster. Good players are only coming / staying for money at this point, what kind of budget do you think LK needs to make the roster stronger?

News Flash:

LSU's roster will look different year to year. Every team is a one-year window.

Idk why some of you choose noy to understand this era of College Football.

Players will leave for more money.

Players will leave for more playing time.

Players will leave because they fell on the depth chart.

That high-end 4 star or 5 star that didnt play much will get tampered with to leave.

Promising talent is not sitting for 3 years like they did 10 years ago

You have to replace Seaton, Green, Prince, Benefield, Weeks, and Dottery... and somehow people think "next year" is the year.

Bama lost 23 player to the portal for this season.

We all know about attrition. Those teams were adding depth to already existing talent, we are trying to build depth.

Those same two programs have an expectation to win every year. They dont have a "Lets wait and see" or "Maybe next year" viewpoint

They also have one coach in his 3rd year and one in his 11th. You don't think LSU fans have an expectation to win? Of course we do. However, if you think Kiffin strolls in year one and cakewalks to the playoffs with a cobbled together roster that was put together in short order, I'll have some of what you are drinking.

AND they'll have 30+ new players next season, too. That's not an excuse.

If this was always a throwaway season, why spend big money on guys like Dottery, Seaton, and Princewill? That money could've gone toward younger players who could develop this season and be ready to make an impact next year.

Kelly was 5-1 through six games last year. Kiffin is 4-2 with four ranked opponents remaining, including two in the top 10. I'm fine with three losses, but this roster was built to compete now, not lose four or five games.

LSU didn't fire Kelly, pay a massive buyout, and spend a fortune on Kiffin and his roster to lower expectations. He was hired to beat difficult schedules and make the playoffs consistently.

If Kiffin misses the playoffs his first two seasons, he's a is looking like a bust. We didn't spend all this money to get the same results that got Kelly fired.
