5 sacks allowed by OL -- are they that bad or is the D that good?

Our perennial weakness reared it's ugly head again yesterday. Should we be concerned? I'll hang up and listen...

Without context of who gave them up ansd how many plays were run it doesnt mean much

Perennial?
O line wasn’t great in 2017 and 18, but LSU has had a dominant online for 90% of 21st century
Les was an incredible oline guru and it showed most seasons

In a scrimmage any touch on the QB is a "sack". In a real game that may be 2 or 3 sacks

or none at all.

Keep in mind that a good bunch of plays were run with backups and walk ons in on the OL.

I'd say you shouldn't take much, if anything at all, from it. First, it's a scrimmage, so it's controlled and the qb can't get hit. Speaking of the qb, your starter didn't play a snap. Speaking of starter, your best pass rushers (Delpit/Chaisson) didn't take a snap. I'd question the logic skills of anyone who becomes concerned about anything under these circumstances.

our DLine last year got pushed around. theyre the group im hoping for the most improvement if we expect a true run

what starters were out?

For a while there LSU didn't have one OL drafted he recruited and developed. Choosing to play football in a telephone booth and racking up big rushing numbers doesn't mean you have a dominant or well coached OL.

2's against 1's or vice versa? Situational formation packages? Some starters sitting, getting more reps to some 2's and 3's?
Many variables in play that actually do make a big difference. I'm not in a hurry to start melting. I'm just going to assume the offense is going to be like it normally is, and just hope that they open things up and surprise me.
We know our defense will be national top 5 overall and scoring, so I'll definitely cut the offense some slack if it was 1's against 1's. Iron sharpens iron.

Thank you I was just about to reply to him, but you spared me the explanation.

Many starters were held out

Can’t tell because of playing a lot of backups, and I doubt they used the quick throw offense much from reports and the few clips seen, just hard to know anything, esp without Joe in there...

Defensive Line last season was adequate enough for this landscape. Had we run an aggressive, multiple offense last season - like the one Joe Brady has promised for this season - we could've made a true run: 11 & 1 and playoff berth. Orgeron and Ensminger were to blame for the 3 losses. The mentality on offense was passive, and Ensminger couldn't develop a short, quick passing game. Ensminger's lack of skill/knowledge there is what got our offensive line smoked so often. He was requiring them to protect for way too long.

A scrimmage may mean running the same play 5 times until they execute it perfectly. It’s not a game simulation. Stats mean nothing.

The same exact excuses were being posted last year after a scrimmage. Hopefully they are legitimate excuses this year.

Arguably the 3 best players on defense didn’t play and they still dominated
