re: 3-1 against Alabama, Florida, Vanderbilt and Oklahoma isn’t bad at all. The problem is.

I think Kelly’s first 2 seasons, with what he inherited, were fine, even better than expected IMO. But failing to make a 12 team playoff in year 3, with the most favorable schedule LSU has had in a very long time is a failure. Plain and simple

Florida, Vandy and OU are SHOULD beat teams.

Bama is a CAN beat team.

Good teams beat the teams they should beat and most of the teams they can beat.

Sobering thought. I want to believe but if I had to lay a bet I would say 3-1.
Stranger things have happened. We are definitely capable though

Thats one game.

The rest of Notre Dame games are boring. Part of the reason they can't be in the top 4.

TAMU will not play a top 25 team on the road.

Did we not have elite talent under O and Les?

We did. It's why Les was able to hold on for so long. O recruited well and obviously it culminated in 2019 but he couldn't keep the talent together and if fell off a cliff.

BK started in a hole with 38 scholarship players and is slowly climbing out of it.

The biggest marks on BK, IMO, are the inexcusable defense he had last year and being unprepared for opening games. It seems he has made corrections to the defense but still has problems with being unprepared for opening games.

Now it seems another problem has presented itself in terms of game time adjustments during the ATM game. Hopefully that's just a one off.

But recruiting is trending way up especially with the commitment from Underwood (which is the most important position on the field) and the talent and depth of talent being built. It's going in the right direction.

Yep when you play in the SEC you’ve really fricked yourself when you start 0-1. I also believe no team is the same from beginning to end of season. Really wish we would stop scheduling these tough openers. It really does us no benefit especially being in the SEC.

We won’t. Clemson is way better than USC. They are going to beat LSU by 10 or more.

Get used to it

Correct. That scenario wouldn’t shock me at all. Dude loves to lose to inferior teams

Please cite all of these inferior teams that BK has lost to?

TAMU '22? USC 24'?

I would say those are both about even, if anything.

If LSU fails to make the playoffs, that is a failure, plain and simple. That's not the question however.

The questions are: (1) how big of a failure is it considering the circumstances, (2) what is the likelihood of Kelly failing to make the playoffs in the future given the circumstances, (3) what is the cost and likelihood of LSU being able to replace Kelly with a coach who has a significantly better chance to fail less than Kelly to make the playoffs in the future given the circumstances.

Well then call Hot Seat now because there is no way that we go into the Other Death Valley to start next season and get a W. They will be Really Good and we will be replacing a ton!

I find it humorous if anybody thinks going 9-3 every year is what got Orgeron or Miles run off.

The seasons that actually got Miles fired:
2014: 8-4 (4-4)
2015: 8-3 (5-3)
2016: 7-4 (5-3)
…combined with a complete and obvious unwillingness to change anything offensively moving forward.

The seasons that actually got Orgeron fired:
2020: 5-5 (5-5)
2021: 6-6 (3-5)

Paul, you have repeatedly said that Alabama is awful this year, but you say a 3-1 finish would be good? Since Alabama is apparently a guaranteed win, which of the other three do you think will knock off the Tigers?

other “coach”

and it was because he has a consistent flaw he refused to fix.

We didn’t fire any other coach for going 9-3 constantly.
