True. Also, Botswana is a former German colony. It's governed with a lot more efficiency than probably any country on the continent.

If it doesn’t have a GDP bigger than Thailand or Austria, the country isn’t important, and I don’t need to be educated on it. That’s my rule.

Botswana was never a German colony. It was English. Namibia right next door was German.

For comparison to the 2 countries I referenced

quote:

The nominal GDP per capita of the Central African Republic is projected at approximately $613 for 2026, according to the International Monetary Fund

quote:

The nominal GDP per capita of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is approximately $742 to $1,122, depending on current estimates.

The Congo is so shitty all they can do is estimate and pray

If you listen to the great white hunters of this place, yes. The elephant lives are also worth more.

"Take the shot! If you hit him, we will put him in the ditch with many others."

A PH to one of our posters who was worried he might hit an African villager that was in the way of his big game shot.

Same. The only thing I do know about Botswana is that the Okavango Delta is there. So many animals migrate there during and after the rainy season. People will take tours through these endless canals, with walls of grass on either side, in little canoes in hippo infested waters.

23 elephants out of 130,000....this is a big nothingburger. Animal rights folks want zero elephants harvested so they're of course up in arms. Botswana has too many elephants as it is.

It's their culture. We have to love it because they have darker skin than us.

Botswana is one of the good SSA countries. It's really developing well.

I was going to say the same thing. It is one of the most developed and well-run countries in Africa. Made the most of their arrangement with DeBeers over the years to mine diamonds there and has well run animal conservation programs that include hunting big game.

I can't think of an animal in the U.S. that I wouldn't hunt and many of them I do hunt, but it seems a little weird to me to hunt an elephant.

Same thing with a giraffe or a lion. Too majestic to just shoot. I'd probably go on a murderous rampage on hyenas. Hate those little frickers.

Botswana is supposed to be one of the better countries in Africa to go on a safari hunt for the various types of antelope they have and other animals.

I think SF is right in saying it's one of the more civilized and prosperous countries in Africa. Not sure why he's getting criticized for such a benign statement.
