He just needs to improve on his run game & redzone concepts.

And we didn’t have issues with Taylen Green who is a good runner. We were completely unprepared for Reed and Milroe is apparently just the John Bond of the 21st century. I still have no faith that we will be able to defend him next season even if our defense is a reincarnation of the ‘85 Bears. frick that guy.

Let's start with small steps like a WIN vs Clemson

Going on the road at Clemson to face Cade Klubnik & those young, talent WRs will not be an easy task.

toss up games like Bama, Ole MS, TX Am, UF

Both Bama & Ole Miss are looking at breaking out new QBs. Bama is in a better spot to do so based off roster retention & experience. Ole Miss having to start a new QB along with the extreme roster turnover they are experiencing is a recipe for disaster. A&M & Florida will be tough but thankfully those games are at home. OU is the trickiest team on the schedule to breakdown. While they got the best QB available in the portal, they have serious questions at offensive skill positions. Despite being solid on defense, they are facing a similar challenge that LSU faced after 2021 with only 50 something scholarship players on the roster.

At times the edges crashed down inside which gave away the outside but the majority of the problems came from our safeties not having desire to physical & taking the worst angles as possible. Thank goodness Sage Ryan is gone & hopefully Jardin Gilbert gets lost on the bench.

The team next year will be deep and talented. Anything less than a championship is a bust for me.

Does that also apply to weak fans that are deathly afraid of traffic 6-7 times per year?

Championship or bust is so overrated. How about kick it up a notch?
Win a natty undefeated then go spank the New Orleans saints. Possibly join the nfl and win a Lombardi

The month of December has sure been a roller coaster ride for some fans. Early in the month some fans are writing off BK bc a Michigan HS QB decided to stay in Michigan. Then some were predicting a 6-6 or worse season. Now OP is saying if LSU does not win a Championship it is a bust season for him.

Wow. From one of the spectrum to the other. I like the transfer portal additions. I am curious to see how those players will be coached and how they can gel together. The O Line will be the biggest test. I think LSU could be contenders for CFP.

Thankfully, no other team in college football has talent or is trying to win the NC.

There are certain common factors national title contenders & champions tend to have in common over the years.

1. Continuity along the coaching staff check

2. An upperclassmen at QB with at least 1 year as starter check

3. Returning, experience talent offensively & defensively check

4. Impact freshman (Pickett, Berry fit that category) check

5. Luck: in terms of injuries & certain moments during the season (TBD)

Clemson easily because this opportunity will not come along often like other SEC opponents. Its a rare road trip against an old Southern Conference opponent.

quote:

Although conference brothers for thirty-six years, the two schools never met once on the football field. A number of reasons factored in to this, including distance and mammoth size of the conference. There were upwards of twenty-one other teams in the SoCon at times. In the early twentieth century, college football was popular, but the organizational structure of conferences and at the national-level was much looser than it is today. Try as they might, the Southern Conference had a tough time keeping twenty plus schools in check year after year. Eventually this led to LSU joining a group of members in creating the Southeastern Conference, and later Clemson joining the remaining teams to form the ACC.

Someone else mentioned Green of Arkansas.

The difference is Pavia, Arnold, and Green are mobile but are not speed demons. LSU has trouble with Reed, Sellars, and Milroe who are speed demons. That is exactly the difference. Not every "mobile QB" is a running QB/run first guy.

Green played on a bum ankle & was ineffective as a runner that game. Pavia was the key to the Vanderbilt run game this season being they run a ton of zone read, QB power & QB off tackle. Act like you know what you are talking about. Also, Oklahoma used QB power & QB off tackle with Jackson to the tune of 25 carries for 131 yards to beat Alabama just 2 weeks prior to playing LSU.

The defense didn't give up big plays against Sellers, Reed & Milroe on QB scrambles. Those big plays came off the same play designs the defense stopped against Vandy & OU. Zone read, QB power & QB off tackle. The keys to stopping those type of design QB runs are maintaining gap integrity with your line as well as having safeties take good angles & be solid tacklers. It's the same recipe that was required to stop the old wishbone or triple option.

Your 1), 2), and 4) are checks for sure. 5) as you noted no one knows now. But 3) is highly questionable. We don't know the game talent for the OL since LSU lost 4 of the 5 starters and people dump on the returning starter...at least at his returning position of C. Also, where is the experience at safety. We don't even know the safety talent, much less the experience at those spots.

You left out probably the biggest factor in a national title contender BTW...being able to run the football. LSU has proven 0 ability to run the football this season. Durham and Alexander were fine...the run blocking was a disaster.
