Giles had a greatly forgettable 2018 season. When he came on board I thought he was the second coming of Russell Gage. Man was I wrong.

Yeah that’s a big factor.

Lawrence is very young for his classification and I think Could jump pretty high with a big year.

Lawerence is a mid to late round pick. He is good at everything, but doesn't excel at anything. I don't think he is strong enough to play inside in a 4-3 and not quick or athletic enough to play outside in a 4-3.

Uh, no.

You are merely listing draft eligible players who were between contributors and starters. Only White and Williams should and will leave.

Fulton is the best prospect left. But there are several factors that will cause him to stay. First, he has shown flashes of brilliance that give him a real shot at being a first rounder. Second, he had the drug test issue that remains fresh and relatedly, he has limited game reps. It may come as a surprise to those of us who live and breathe LSU football but there are a bunch of talented, raw defensive backs on other college teams. And there are a bunch of talented, experienced DBs on other college teams. Fulton right now might be a late third, early 4th, but his limited playing time and eligibility issue will cause him to slide. Leave now, probably the best you do is what Anthony Averett from Bama did last year - Fourth round. That's a 4 year contract for $3.1 million of which the only guaranteed money is the signing bonus of $667,000. After that you get a base salary of under half a mill, escalating to $750K. Leave a year from now, and you are looking at the deal that Jaire Alexander signed with Green Bay as a middle of the first round pick. Also four years. But...$6.8 million upfront and $12+ million all guaranteed.

So the full value of the contract is 4x. The signing bonus is 10x and the guaranteed money is 18x.

This is not even close to a hard decision.

The problem Lawrence has is that I have seen NFL prospect rankings that have 25 DL with potential 1st round grades, and some recent mock drafts with 15 DL going in the 1st round. That means there could be 10 DL with 1st round grades available after round 1. So lets say those next 10 get picked in round 2, early 3rd round, that would be 25 DL drafted in top 80 picks. Teams obviously have other needs so the next time there could be DL picks could be 5th-6th round, even if a player has a grade of 3rd/early 4th round grade.

If you are a 3rd/4th round grade this year, you are better coming back next year because you could potentially be a 2nd, maybe late 1st rounder next year.

There are just too many high quality DL prospects for the 2019 grade, maybe the deepest ever with potentially 25 guys having 1st round grades and 15, maybe 16-17 of those going in the 1st round.

I think Ed Alexander might go due to chronic injuries. He may decide he needs to get paid while he can. He's kind of in a no win situation. He can stay and possibly improve his stock, but if his knee issue is truly degenerative he shortens his NFL career. If he declares, his injury and limited play in 2018 will make him a lower pick due to health concerns.

Fulton has essentially only played one season of college football. While it was a solid season, it certainly wasn't remarkable like Greedy's season last year. If he comes back he will be the #1 CB on LSU's team and get all of the scout/media attention that went to Williams this season.

Interior DL might be the deepest position group in this draft. Lawrence is in that mix, but the question he'll have to consider is does he just want to be drafted, or does he wanted to be drafted high? Or to put it another way, is it better to be the 10th-15th best DL available (this year) or (potentially) the 5th or higher best available DL (next year)

One named not mentioned in the OP is Ed Alexander. Now, he's probably not a 1st round pick if for no other reason than his position isn't valued as high as others by NFL teams. However, the thought (and maybe this is wrong) is that his body only has so much football left in it. Maybe he's better suited using what he has left in the NFL vs. college. IMO, he was a very underrated aspect of the defense this year. When he was out, there was a noticeable drop off

On offense, it's hard to see any of the draft-eligible underclassmen being highly coveted right now.
