Outside of Jordan Jefferson, LSU had talent on offense, always does, comes down to QB

Les Miles did not recruit QB’s worth a damn or implement the spread, or get an OC that was worth their salt

And don’t read me Brandon Harris was a 4 star and so was JJ, still not worth a damn at QB - not dissing these guys, just fact of the matter they shouldn’t have been playing QB at LSU

Lostons greatest highlights was his 100+ yard pick six vs moo state which has to be the school record and the HS under armour AA game

Nope, Greg Jackson took one 107 yds back in the late 80s. But Loston may have been longer I can't remember

You don’t remember his countless huge hits, knocking out the Mississippi state player, or his pick six?

I used to love watching Claiborne just swamp receivers. He literally would not let them breathe.

I believe they would be tied at 99 yards. I am pretty sure they don’t count the end zone yards on turnover returns.

Completely agree. But take Loston out of your post. He’s ruining how beautiful it is

Hard to argue with this. That secondary was loaded. Most know the big time names you mention, and don't remember just how good Brandon Taylor was.

Good way to describe the way he played. Lock step with the receiver and seemed like he had 10 foot long arms. Guess that sounds weird, but that is how I remember his coverage.

Nope. Loston struggled in coverage but could hit.

Under-performed? Guess you think we should win the natty every year. Lol. We may very well be in the beginning of a run where we overtake Bama, but hard to say we under-performed. How long you been following football? You need to realize Miles coached against Saban and Urban Myers in their prime, and kept us top 5 or top 10 consistently. Also, had to go against some good Auburn teams, especially the Cam Newton year. It was time for Miles to go, but we were pretty good during his time.

Interesting question. Burrow had an all time great year, but many of his throws required the receiver to win the battle with the ball in the air. Good question of how many times would this secondary win some of those battles. Peterson and Claiborne were coverage studs. The honey badger has split second instincts much like Burrow and would have made some plays.

Would be fun to watch!

That team had 29 future NFL players on it. 11 offensive and 18 defensive.
Before anyone goes to look at Clemson, it was 28-25 when Skalski was ejected.
If you want to consider comparing this past season’s offense against that defense and look for a possible match-up weakness, it MAY be at TE with Baker in coverage. Other than that Mathieu shuts down Clyde receiving and slows down Jefferson (Mathieu was FAR TOO quick then) and that defensive line with Nevis and Co would get to Burrow like Clemson did as well as Bama. The LSU 2010 and 2011 would keep this offense to <28 points a game with Bo or Boomer coaching them. Hell look what they did with Chavis and ZERO offensive help.
Coverage gives the DL and Backers time to pressure the QB.

Throwing receivers open against 2 very tall and rangy cover corners like that, nope. So that leaves the slot guy, back and TE. You could put Mathieu on the slot or back and brooks or Reid on the #3 who were both fast with Reid with size. All the while the defensive line and backers are going to pressure the QB. Burrow would have to run like Cam did. He was awesome at running, but Cam is one of the best I’ve ever seen in College with arguably a top 2-3 season when you compare talent surrounding him and STILL winning the Heisman and a national championship.

However, this is a TEAM sport so 2019 >>>>>>>>>>>>2010.

2010 was full of Les craziness. That team started the year with high expectations.

They almost blew game 1 to a depleted UNC team after dominating the first half. I remember leaving that game upset about the W.

The West Va game never felt out of control despite being only a 6 point W. TS was at its finest, and another punt return TD put PP7 in the Heisman race.

The next week was the damn Tennessee game. Yet another one Les deserved to lose and somehow we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Speaking of Les wins, the fake FG swamp game was the following week. It felt like that team finally gelled that night with a huge road W and Toliver went nuts.

They lost a tough one 2 weeks later to Auburn’s title team they sold their soul for. I remember that turning into my favorite SEC road trip as we still had a blast.

2 weeks later, my favorite game as a student in TS, 2010 Bama. LSU didn’t have a chance in the eyes of the national media, but damnit they found a way in a wild 2nd half and ended Saban’s title hopes that year.

A wild shoot-out W a couple weeks later against Ole Miss, then a sloppy and disappointing finish in Little Rock to the should’ve been Sugar Bowl champ hogs.

The beginning of a long winning streak against A&M in the Cotton Bowl capped everything off. JJ played arguably his best game at LSU and A&M rolled over like a rag doll, similar to last year.

Looking back, 2010 was so much damn fun. It epitomized Les’ roller coaster tenure and set up one of the best regular seasons ever the following year. Better QB play and offensive scheme could’ve put 2010 over the top.

I do remember his hits. Which is why i said he wouldn't wrap up, but he went for hits instead.

He is possibly one of the most underrated players in DBU when people have these conversations.

The most underrated DB in LSU history has to be Danny McCray. We dogged him non-stop when he was here, then he had a nice career in the NFL.

After the 2010 season we had ZERO offensive linemen drafted. After 2011 we had one, Joe Barksdale (3rd round), after 2012 we had ZERO. So the 2010 offense was playing with an offensive line (that’s almost half your offense, BTW) that was about equal to Tulane’s. We DID NOT have “the talent” on offense.
