Hard to really play this game without knowing which freshmen make it to campus and what transfers we get. Hell, no guarantee Jobert or Dugas even come back. They moat likely will, but who knows.
correct, we are just playing "what if" but I just cannot see Jay doing anything at all that makes his defense any worse than it was last year. My granny and girlfiend know that the sloppy play in the field has to be nipped in the bud. Dedicate a coach, get a player or two in the portal, whatever it takes to learn from 2022.

Crews looked like an idiot in RF at times as a freshman.
No he didn’t. That is silly

Nah, he definitely had his moments out there. I even recall some people on here saying he was not a very good defensive OF. Now of course they have plenty idiots on this board so you can't really take those kind of comments from some people seriously.

Crews obviously wasn't terrible in RF. But, contrary to the way alot of people describe it, neither Pearson nor Stevenson were terrible. They're being judged on a handful of, what amounts to, poor judgment plays. I can distinctly remember saying to myself a few times with Crews in RF, "What was that?" or "Was the sun in his yes?" And that's about the same thing I said for Pearson and Stevenson, "What is he doing?"

Pearson & Stevenson do not even look comfortable settling under routine balls. Crews never was like that. Yea maybe he didn’t grab a ball on the run or a low hit line drive. But never uncomfortable like those 2

I hope he learned his lesson with that. You can't just outhit your poor defense all year long
Do you honestly think that’s his strategy? Or that Jay was unaware of that before last year. He put together the best roster he could with holdovers, transfers, and injuries. The ones that played were not injured and gave them the best chance to win. Jay does not hang his players out to dry in the media. Reading between the lines, throughout the year he mentioned controlling the game in the future with personnel that can pitch, are more athletic and who can taking care of the ball. Bottom line, He wants big league talent on the roster. A complete team that can pitch, hit and field.

Somewhat agree, but he also built the lineup almost entirely around hitting.
Doughty should've been at 3B, and Merrifield at 2B. Berry should've been a DH. Instead, Doughty struggled at 2B, nobody could really nail down 3B, and you had all kinds of trouble in the corner OF spots...all while you had the worst fielding SS in the league.
Now, I don't think Jay knew the kids well enough yet and injuries certainly didn't help.
Let's also see how he approaches it this coming year. Dugas and Pearson moving to the infield wouldn't be a wise way to prove that defense is valued. I don't think they'd be terrible, don't get me wrong, but that's not the answer.

Merrifield wasn’t good enough to start anywhere. That’s why he didn’t start
Posted on 6/16/22 at 4:00 pm to Datsmoneydude
Right, opening day was Doughty at 3B and Safford at 2B, and that lasted about half of a game. Merrifield was basically your opening day starter at 3B.

Easiest thread to start, but people swallowed the hook.
Of course we’ll get pitchers and position players from the portal and of course no one know when.

Hunt said on his radio show to expect the next few days to be good to LSU baseball. OP piggyback on that and now Hunt is making him look bad.
