Good point. Many people say they are slow. Are they speedsters no but they run well enough. Where they are slow as younger guys is reading the ball off the bat and that first step which is important to being a good outfielder. Pearson knows he needs to improve. He did an interview and stated his goal this summer was to improve in the outfield.

I think if Kling gets to campus it will be Pearson to LF and Kling will play in RF. That will make the OF pretty good defensively and offensively.
Not writing off Stevenson/Dugas/Jobert in the OF but I am really high on Kling.

I think Pearson can develop into a pretty good outfielder. Just needs more reps and experience. To me Stevenson looked even more lost and without as much current offensive contribution he might not get as many opportunities to improve. Which would suck because I think he has potential too

Pearson was more comfortable in RF. His struggles were in LF. Oddly enough, I think LF will be his landing spot.
Stevenson is a natural CF. He covers a ton of ground in CF. I don't think he's really comfortable at either corner spot yet. He better figure it out quick bc I don't know if CF will be open for awhile.
Playing out of position can make you look slow, bad, clumsy, however you want to describe it. You're not going to find many guys that can just move fluidly to any OF position and not have some problems.

If you are good at CF you don’t look like Stevenson did in the regional. Let’s not sugar coat it. Good CF’ers can play any OF position well

That is really strange to me being that Pearson has said himself in interviews before and at the beginning of the season that he can play RF but is better and most comfortable in LF.

Disagree entirely. Crews looked like an idiot in RF at times as a freshman.

Watch what they do, not what they say.

This dude said Crews wasn’t a good defensive OF in center field lmao

He’s not the only one who struggled in the outfield at usm. Every teams outfielders were struggling to pick up the ball except for usm players. Not positive why this was but being there it was obvious

Oh I get that, just think it is weird that his confidence was more in LF yet his play looked better in RF.

I’m still not sure he doesn’t wind up at 2nd. I bet they give him a lot of reps there in the fall. He may be playing there some this summer. With Jay, I’m not sure anything is off the table that gets the best bats in the lineup without there just being a black hole somewhere.

I hope he learned his lesson with that. You can't just outhit your poor defense all year long. I'm not jumping for joy thinking about Pearson or Dugas on the infield. I get it, they have to be in the lineup - but it's still a gamble.

I actually thought Stevenson looked good in the outfield in the fall and mid-season but struggled a little at the end along with his bat. I'm not worried about him. Pearson didn't look good in the fall or early on but seemed to improve. He just needs more reps at judging the ball off the bat. That split second reaction is just as important as the speed.
I don't see us portal shopping for an outfielder. They need to look for a SS because all the current options have question marks. I'm not sure if they go with another infielder or Catcher for second position player but they havent shown any interest in a Catcher.
Project is thinking 4 pitchers and I agree. They need starters and closers. Expect Reyzelman and Gervase to be gone.

While I agree, I’m not sure Pearson wouldn’t be better at 2nd than either corner OF spot. Though I suppose there’s a reason he’s an OF and not already at 2nd or 3rd, which is what his body type screams. Same with Dugas, too, I suppose. They’re built alike. But he probably is who he is at this point in his career.
Hard to really play this game without knowing which freshmen make it to campus and what transfers we get. Hell, no guarantee Jobert or Dugas even come back. They moat likely will, but who knows.
