LSU holds Alabama without a First Down in the First Half. The DC for LSU was Pete Jenkins!!

Had the makings for a great season - the Tigers were 7-0-1 after that game, then lost to Moo State and Tulane.

Worst defeat in The Bear's career. He resigned within a month.

Watched game at club in Downtown Thibodaux called "The Max". LSU was on Walter Lewis like flies on Hillary.

Or stink on Hillary... whichever you prefer.

I played golf with Allen Risher years later at an alum scramble & he said that they went into the locker room at half climbing the walls & going nuts, like no locker room he saw before or later. And then he said Stovall walked in & spent the half time chewing them out. Not a well liked HC according to Risher & he gave all the credit for that team's success to OC Mack Brown. Added that the complete silence in Legion Field was the best sound he's ever heard.

Had some guys in my class that went to the game. Monday they were telling us they had to fight there way out of the stadium to their car. Gumps were pissed.

there was an old joke shortly after this game

Bear talked to the team, told them to keep their heads up, come in the next day ready to work. Lots of room for improvement. He left them and started to watch film on the game that just ended and decided to wait until the morning as he headed home.

He arrived home where his wife greeted him. She asked how the boys were handling the loss. He said they were beaten up, but ready to work.

He then asked his wife what time is it, and she said

20 to 10

And he beat her that night

That game was on my "Bucket List".

Alabama so dominated us during the Cholly Mac days that I would think, I hope to live to see LSU just dominate Alabama.

It finally happened.

Pete Jenkins was the DC by title only. Buddy Nix called the defenses...

Same here. Freshman year at LSU. Me and three buddies went. Got two speeding tix on the way. A 78 in a 55 in Miss and a 87 in a 55 in Bessemer. Have no idea how we didn't go to jail! What a road trip.

I was there. My all-time favorite regular season game. I went in a Winnebago w a bunch of buddies. The games were in Birmingham back then, but we partied in Tuscaloosa Friday nite (bar called Lee's Tomb, I think). After we won, we drove back to Tuscaloosa to raise hell. They had closed ALL the bars down on a Saturday nite, not wanting to deal with a bunch of obnoxious Tiger fans. Probably a smart move. So we partied in the street. I still remember a purple and gold Cadillac convertible doing 180's up and down the street.
I also remember "gatoring" on the stadium down-ramp, while the LSU band had to go around us.

The way I heard it was Did you hear Bear was arrested last night for beating his wife? No what happened. He asked her what time was it, and she said 20 to 10.
