Why do any of y'all care if 7 & 18 traditions continue or not? I can't imagine caring that much about what number someone is wearing.

#7 - Boutte (Goes to the best playmaker)

Preeeeeetty sure people only dislike 7 and 18 is because the last two years sucked, and we had a couple 7 busts, namely Giles.

If we're winning, who cares right?? It's awesome! If losing, well golly gosh everything we did was just dumb, obviously! Stupid numbers are just a distraction!

My first thought was Brennan and the #18, then the transfer portal thing came to mind so I was unsure! He kind of needs to win the team and fan base back first!

Agreed. 18 kinda seems like a true LSU tradition, but it should go to the true overall team leader. I also think it should go back to being passed down by former #18s.

I agree with this. O screwed this up by taking it over and expanding it to two players.

Here is the list of 18s, continuous since it started in 2003. It was started as kind of a joke but turned into something real almost immediately.

QB Matt Mauck (2003)
FB Jacob Hester (2004-07)
TE Richard Dickson (2008-09)
RB Richard Murphy (2010)
DB Brandon Taylor (2011)
DT Bennie Logan (2012)
LB Lamin Barrow (2013)
RB Terrence Magee (2014)
CB Tre'Davious White (2015-16)
FB/TE John David Moore and DT Christian LaCouture (2017)
TE Foster Moreau (2018)
C Lloyd Cushenberry and LB K'Lavon Chaisson (2019)
RB Chris Curry and LB Damone Clark (2020)
PK Avery Atkins and LB Damone Clark (2021)

The number 7 thing was really not a tradition, more coincidence until people started making a big deal of it. Mathieu wanted it to pay respect to Patrick Peterson. Leonard Fournette wanted it to represent his home, the 7th Ward. There was a year gap there with no #7 between Mathieu and Fournette. Then Chark, then O gave it to a transfer, Giles. To me that was when any idea of a "tradition went out the window.

I actually like the #18. It seems to have real purpose and an honor to being selected to wear it.

#7 is completely manufactured and needs to go away. It’s like Valentines Day, at the time people try to make it a big deal but at the end of the day it has no meaning and nobody cares. Hell, it’s been a bit of a curse these last few years.

I think the 7 has run its course and needs to end, but 18 is a cool thing.

And why do we care? Because things like this are what make college football great. You don't see traditions like this in the NFL.

I almost feel like the 7 thing should've stayed in the secondary only.

No one in the secondary is even good enough to wear it this year.

I don't understand why people on here have a problem with #18. It's basically like a team captain.

I’m not opposed to it not being given out every year. Feels like it should go to the biggest playmaker on the field. If that guy isn’t there, don’t force it Giles style.

7 needs to die. It's been given to "playmakers" who don't make plays.

We should keep 18 but do away with 7. 7 was only good when players like fournette, peterson, and the honey badger picked up the number and so happened to be insane, when we started forcing it as some award it fell off.

Who was the last 7 to finish a season healthy and Heisman-like numbers? 7 has become a curse more than it has lived up to expectations.

A relatively short lived “tradition” that needs to go away.

I wonder if any long standing traditions that have been around for let's say 50 years, have people saying this?

I don't #7 is a actual tradition like 18 is. 18 is passed down, 7 is one of those ones that is just up for grabs and the "playmaker" picks it up.

Right. So why do so many people want to get rid of them? If players like the #7 tradition, why should fans get to choose when it ends?

Gee, thanks for the warm welcome

Don't take it personal you're just getting schooled, like the other poster said don't bring up the numbers 7 & 18 here.
You will also need to know the backup qb is always the best option according to the rant.
Mention a chick on the OT bring pic's or else meet at Sonic you will understand Sonic soon enough!
