This shite is why no one respects 24/7 now. They manipulate these “rankings” for who they want. All that matters is that we find kids who ball out on the field and not worry about their “ranking.”

This is all media driven. They elevate uncommitted players to make a buck. I remember back in the day, probably the 80s, when a recruiting site posted about a 6-6 305 DT from some school either in north La. or Mississippi. So that kid kept being talked about by the mags in that day to drive up sales... There was no kid. Scouts even showed up at his school to scout him. He was a unicorn. He didn't exist... These sites just like any newspaper, is out to make $.

Wasn’t he a 5 on rivals and 4 everywhere else when he committed? Or was that just 247composite?
We will have guys rise up the rankings too. I mean, think about it, do you really think a recruiting site would have it out for a university? Maybe it happened before because the they don’t trust prior coaches evaluations, but I doubt it.
Bama bump is very possible though, especially if it’s a low 4 star or 3 star. Saban gets the benefit of the doubt that when he offers tea player then they must be good . It probably causes the recruiting sites to re-evaluate the player and then decide to bump him up

I think there is something to the Bama bump but I'm not sure it is anything more than the people on the site being influenced by how well Saban and company identify talent. It still pisses me off though

This is correct for the most part. The fact is that there isn’t much difference in a player who is ranked 50th or 1st. 51st or 100. What is most important is that you recruit the players who you see fit your teams needs and team dynamic. You also want player you feel might grow and progress into a man and who has the same type of talent the competition does.
If LSU signs a DL or LB or OL who is just as talented as any other top teams prospects but the player we signed might be more mature, humble and knows it takes more work than the Bama player to get where he wants or needs to be then he might have the edge in the 1 vs 1 battles on game day.
This can be taught to them while here or it can just be who they are and our coaches can refine that for them. If we have more players like that than Bama does on game day and our coaches are all equally good then we beat them. It’s really that simple. A lot of that is skill and some is luck. Bama wins not because they have more 5*s but they have more of all of it combined and Saban makes sure of that.
Here’s the good news for LSU. We now have a HC coach who I believe is just as good as Saban is when it comes to combining all the variables needed to beat the competition and quickly recognize when/where the shortcomings might be then know how to fix those, if he comes up short from time to time. All we’ll need then is a little luck to win it all.

I remember Derrius Guice's recruitment. He was a 5 star then magically lowered to a 4 star. He then decommitted from LSU before the Army all American game.
I think a reporter asked him why he decommitted and he said he really wanted that 5th star.

It's more about getting money from other fan bases, it's been admitted before and a reason ND was so inflated in the past. It's really money driven so I stopped paying for that crap years ago...look who spends the most on their sites and follow the bumps
