Wiltfong thinks we lead for 5 Star OT Kelvin Banks

Posted on 6/6/21 at 3:42 pm
He posted an update on the message board saying he believes “I think LSU is NO. 1 right now.”
Quotes from Banks on his LSU visit
“They treated me very well,” Banks said. “Better than I expected. They exceeded over what I expected. Immediately everything I saw made me feel like it could be a potential home for me in the future.”
Banks visit included checking out the football and academic facilities, good eating and hanging out with the players.
“It just feels like home because bonding with the players it felt like they could be my teammates,” Banks said. “There were some freshmen players if I do go in there I’d be playing with them and it does feel like a good fit for me.
“Coach (Ed) O(rgeron) is a great coach. You can tell he’s a family guy. He’s all about business but he can have fun with you as well.”
Banks wasn’t able to meet with new offensive line coach Brad Davis because Davis was still going through the process as a new hire but he has a long-standing relationship with him.
“I like him a lot,” Banks said. “I liked Coach (James) Cregg but I was really happy when Coach Davis was named new offensive line coach at LSU. The whole staff is great. They made me feel at home.”

Definitely good news, but I am sure a lot of kids will have new leading school following this weekend. Keeping the elad is the hardest part in crootin

While that is amazing news, it’s kinda messed up to literally copy and paste the acticle behind a paywall.

Good, we're supposedly high on his friends(Kam Dewberry) list as well. Atleast top 5.

I dunno about that. Wasn't even in Bank's top 8.

Ready for LSU to start pulling 5* offensive linemen. Greatest area the team needs upgrading IMO

Don't get caught up in what it was or use to be consider what it IS now. This is the 1st time any of these kids are taking visits or eventual official visits down the road. I believe LSU has a legit shot with Banks and others!!!

This early in the process I tend to take these comments as part genuine and part leverage. When you have a prospect come in and visit they often walk out and post very positive comments about the visit.
So what is in it for them... when they get home the presumed leader(s) will be throwing all kinds of attention their way and if there are any deals under the table they just get sweetened.
Also the person writing the story will get a ton of clicks from the target audience and the ones who think they have him in the bag...

I really think banks likes lsu.
I could see both him and dewberry in the class.

Will Campbell, kelvin banks, and kam dewberry in one class, man oh man

I've felt he was the best odds for the OOS lineman from Texas that LSU has the best shot with.

Unfortunately momentum has faded and he’s most likely Texas bound....
Also I’m starting to get worried about this o-line haul. If it’s trending the way I think it’s gonna be then I will be very disappointed. We have to start landing these type of guys if we want to consistently compete for championships or atleast stay in contention. Hard to figure out why LSU can’t land highly coveted blue chip offensive lineman..it’s just no excuse.

Man...it's honestly even scarier than this. This is more than just not being able to consistently compete for championships--it's being able to stay afloat at all. If we don't improve our OL recruiting DRAMATICALLY, we are going to be on the outside of the top 10 looking in for the foreseeable future.
You can't bring in 1 blue chip OL per year and expect to survive the SEC west. This was supposed to be the cycle where we went over our typical allotment of OL to re-stock the cupboard.... And now we're looking like we might fail to clear the minimum bar again.
In a 25-man recruiting class, you should be bringing in 4-5 offensive linemen per year on average. We haven't landed even *4* OL in several cycles now--if we miss again, things will start to get scary.

I’ll be good with Campbell, E. Jones, West, Bordelon, and Armella. 5 is the minimum but I’d like 6 with another kid having good potential. 5 total OL the last two classes isn’t going to cut it.

I think we’d all be good with that. But from what I’m reading on this Board at least, that seems unlikely. Long way to go but we need Davis to connect with these guys and bring them in.

If this is the case, then we need to start focusing on sleepers or raw players like the "Big Hawaiian" Marques Kamalino Hickson. I really think he learned great technique at La. Line camp and will rise as he applies it on the field. We have been great over the years at finding the 2 star skill player that becomes a star, why not O-lineman?
