Walter Nolan or healthy Mekhi Wingo, Maason Smith, and Dom Mickinley next year?

Those 3 together would probably cost the same as just Nolan.

Edit: I’m saying I’d rather we spend money to get our guys back and sign Mickenley than using that money to sign Nolan.

I like Wingo, but Walter Nolen is probably the best DT in college football and will likely be a top 10 pick in next year’s draft.

Look at his stats at A&M which I have posted in the other thread...NOT that impressive My brother watches all the A&M games because his 2 sons graduated from there. We have discussed Nolan multiple times and he says he has improved but you must be on DRUGS if you really think he is the best DT in college football. Wingo is BETTER than Nolan when healthy and the TR FR Maason Smith in 2021 was better than the TR SO Nolan. You can't evaluate football players properly.

Wingo. Ridiculous question. Wingo is a stud.

Not sure what your asking but id rather quality and depth than one big name player who is one play away from us counting on someone who hasnt contributed or produced at this level.

You and I share the same belief. I guess I did a poor job illustrating that.

I mean Mason Smith was useless for the majority of the year, Dom will be a true freshman, it's very possible that he barely sees the field next year. I haven't watched enough of A&M to judge Nolan against Wingo.

I would take the stability of our two guys next year plus the future potential of McKinley. Nolan has talent, but he was a known head case in HS and just went out bag hunting again. Didn’t we just bust on trying this with Denver Harris?

I realize Harris had issues in college and Nolan wasn’t a big problem once he got to A&M, but there is still some risk there considering what he costs.

That’s a dumb question. I’d easily take all 3 over one dude. I’d we can retain all these guys and get an elite DL coach or at least keep a DL to develop these guys then we might see a big jump at that position next year. Hopefully we see some type of jump regardless.

Where do you guys come up with this fantasy BS? Nolan registered 1 solo tackle vs LSU and was a non factor. He would not start for LSU in 2024.

He will eventually and we need depth at that position

Nolen would start over 2023 version of either Wingo or Smith BUT Smith has yet to recover adequately from his ACL injury of 1st game of 2022. Wingo had an upper body injury for the 2023 season that Kelly hid from the press and fans until he couldn't even play. Bottom line: TR FR Maason Smith > TR SO Mekhi Wingo > TR SO Nolen. But the health of the LSU DT last season puts Nolen ahead of both of them. Even is MS returns for next season, it won't matter if he keeps playing like a ghost of his TR FR ability.

Wingo was third team All American last season. Nolen hasn’t played at that level yet.

It’s spelled Nolen. If you don’t think he’s better than any DL we have, or even in the SEC, you’re not watching. ATM’s DLine was light years ahead of ours and he was their best player. His stats don’t tell the story. He was double teamed regularly and got a ton of penetration.

There’s a reason his transfer rating is so high on 247 and On3.
