LSU football recruiting in 2024 cycle earns A+ from 247Sports
247
quote:

In a recent article from the 247Sports recruiting team, the group went through the efforts in this 2024 cycle to this point and have come away quite impressed with what the purple and gold have pulled off. Andrew Ivins gave the Tigers an A+ for the start and that’s before many of the big names LSU has been linked to have committed.

“We saw in that initial 2023 class, that first cycle for (Brian Kelly’s staff), they recruited nationwide. Fast forward to this 2024 class, he’s already got seven prospects from the state of Louisiana committed. LSU leads on the Crystal Ball for three more guys right in their backyard, so it seems like LSU has figured things out. … They love to use the tight ends, get them involved, that’s kind of the X-factor for the Tigers on offense, and I think (Top247 tight end commits Trey’Dez Green and Tayvion Galloway) are as good of a duo as you’re going to find so far in the 2024 cycle. … So, I really like the group LSU has assembled. I think this is exactly what the Tigers needed to do, and we’ll see how they finish it out.”

You’re getting downvoted but you aren’t wrong. Bama and UGA recruit on a totally different level. LSU is right there but not quite the same

Idk man, I counted like 4 five stars and a bunch of four stars. That’s a lot of good players brother.

Hmm the NFL would disagree with you. We have under achieved a lot with bad coaching before Kelly. Only Bama has put more players in the NFL the last 10 years. And when you look at elite NFL players we are probably better than them there. With the transfer portal now, roster management and player development are just as important. Finishing top 10 every year and nailing the other two is what will have us competitive with any other program the up coming years.

Transfer Portal Era... pray you can land 5-7 guys that can crack the two-deep in positions of need by year 2 and the let the rest of the chips fall where they may for the rest of the class.

Unfortunately those 3-star and low-end 4-star "Depth/Project" guys out of HS are a waste of time. You may have 3 or 4 that exceed expectations but it doesn't happen often.

Once we bring in a more developed player out of the portal or a higher rated HS prospect in the following class...They typically get buried on the depth chart and transfer out after year 1 or 2 to find playing time immediately.

Just last week BK said his only concern was depth but that would not be an issue after this class.

If you want to essentially guarantee yourself to make a playoff as a result of a recruiting class, there is one common denominator you need to aim for: Have a class with 300 points or higher on the 247 rating system.

Take a look at the teams who have consistently done so. 1 300 plus class every 2-3 years supplemented by 285-295 type classes is the recipe.

It’s definitely not going to be a great one.

That’s not how recruiting works. Coaches don’t just get a “depth” class for the hell of it. If that’s the kind of class it is, it’s because that’s the type of guys they can get this year. Imagine Kirby and Nick saying, “hey let’s not try to get all the best recruits this year, just get a nice class for depth”.

Its a class full of Juniors right now

They will all have a chance to continue to grow and develop over the summer and next season and will be evaluated countless times during that period. Some of these "depth" pieces as you call them might be stars in 6 months.

Like who? We’re looking at 1, maybe 3 at best 5 stars this class.

Any one in the top 100 is considered elite and I’ll put money on LSU signing more top 100 kids this year than last class

Truth
Dashawn McBryde was considered an depth piece and a borderline take on this board 4 months ago - now he’s a top 75 player on 247

No it’s not a joke and for all those downvoting my post just can’t accept the truth. You are arguing with me that LSU recruits on the SAME level as Bama, UGA, Ohio State, etc year in and year out? What facts prove that?

Also someone mentioned UGA just won two natties. UGA was out recruting Bama for #1 classes before they even won a Natty and hadn’t won one for almost 40 years.

LSU can recruit better. Why would anyone want to argue that or even not want that for LSU?

Kelly and his staff do a great job with talent evaluation, and player development. It didn’t take long for the True Freshmen to hit the field. I’ll trust this staff over a paid scout.

It’s a solid class but not elite. Would land somewhere around 7 or 8

The best class in LSU history, 2017, was ranked 7th.

Actually best class in the past 10 years according to 247 was 2014 and it was ranked 2nd. But look at what that amounted to...
